The Strike Among Miners
and How it is Progressing.
Irwin, Pa., April 4.-The strikers are fighting for the recog
nition of the union at this place. They began rioting last night
and kept up a fusilade all night with the guards of the Edna
mines. No one was injured, but the operators will put on
twenty-five more guards tonight.
NO COAL MINED IN OHIO THIS WEEK.
Columbus, Ohio, April 4,-No coal will be mined in Ohio
this werk, according to the miners. The miners and operators
will confer at Athens next Monday and on the result of the con
ference will depend the situation.
PITTSBURG MINES OPENING UP.
Pittsburg, Pa., April 4.-More mines are in operation in the
Pittsburg district today than yesterday,hut none had a fu I
complement of miners. No work is being done in the independ
ent mines and the operators say that they are closed indefinite
ly It is estimated that the trouble among the local miners has
already cost them one hundred thousand dollars.
