As in every other court and as in
every other branch of business in
Valdosta the business of the ordi

was the case when the inspections ;
were made last year. This is true, it
-is stated at the adjutant general's of
fice, not only of the men themselves
and their work but of the arms and
the manner in which they are kept.
Gov. Terrell and Adjutant Gen
eral Harris have been very much
gratified upon the reports rnaJe re
garding the condition of the troops,
hnd the indications now seem to be
tiiat ijot a single company will have
to be.disbanded as the result of the
inspection.
There are two companies In the
state how-ever, which have requested
to be disbanded. These are Compa
ny H. of the fifth Infantry at La-
Grarge and company A of the third
Infantry at. Covington: The captains
of both of these companies have re
quested that their commands be dls
banded for various reasons and these
requests are now under considers,
tion by the adjutant general It Is.
practically settled that the LaGrange
company will be disbanded within a
few days, but whether the same ac
tion will be taken in the case at Cov
ington compapy, has not yet been
decided. Neither of these requests
came, however, as the result of the
Inspections.
There are several vacancies In the
various regiments of the state, num
bering some elghr or ten Ip the In
fantry and four In the cavalry which
may be filled in as the governor sees
fit This will no doubt be done from
the applications now on file as there
are requests enough In the adjutant
general s office from various parts of
the state for the organization of new
military companies to forma couple
of new regiments This matter will
probably be taken up when the pres
eu Inspections are concluded
a contract to pay for it out of
actual savings to the city.
Shingles on Roof Burning
A fire alarm was turned In about
11:30 today from a box on the corner
Of Holiday street and WboJIng Lane.
The fire department responded
promptly and reached the scene be
fore the blaze had done tny damage
beyond the burning of a few shingle*
on the roof. The fire was at the
home of Policeman McTyre, but the
damage from it amounted to very Iff.
tie A large crowd of people were
on the street and followed the fire
men to the scene, most of them anx‘
ions to see the firemen at work.

In addition to the regular routine
business in the ordinary’s court yes
terday, all tlie heirs of the John W.
Harrell estate were present and a
partial settlemnnt of the estate's
business was made by the adminis
trator James G. Scruggs.
There are twelve heirs to this es
tate consisting of IV. N. Harrell,
Mrs. M. A. Baskin, Mrs. Mamie
Baskin, R. T. Hanell, A. B. Harrel'-
John W. Harrell, Jr., J. L. Wood
ing, guardian for JFannie Wooding,
Mrs. Marrlam Harrell, A. H. Har
rell, Mrs. VerJie Dremry, Mrs.
Nancy Scruggs and Miss Fannie Har
rell. The administrator had already
paid quite a nice little sum to thes*
heirs but there was still remaining
j * n bands of the administrator
I $30,000 to be disbursed between
them. This amount under "the approv*
al of the ordinary was paid to them
on yesterday.
..The Administrator, however did
not make a final settlement of the es
tate s business for the reason that
there yet remains some property un
sold and there are one or two suits
against the estatq which the courts
must settle .before a final settlement
with the heirs is made
