OonipoBed of George Bell, of Chica
go, and six wealthy southerners,
formed a syndicate today and closed
"a deal for forty thousand acres of
Mississippi delta cotton land.
The Company will grow cotton
similar to tho methods In the volley
of the Nile.
The price of this land Is sold to
have been a million and a half do!

morrow when the celebrated Queen
Elizaboth ring Is to be sold at auc
tlon. The ring hns been in gosseo-
elon of either the Devereux or Car-
terot-Thyme families for thrice hun
dred years. The ring la believed to
be the ldcutlcnl clrclot given by
Queen Elizabeth as a pledge of par
don to her favorite, the Earl of Es
sex. Delay on the part of the Coun
tess of Nottingham in returning tho
ring resulted in the Earl's execution
and, so it Is said, hastened the death
of the grlof-strlcken Queen.

Impelled solely by a desire to be
of service to a fellow creature L. D.
Bozeman, a young man 20 years of
age, who lives at Ty Ty, Ga., Friday
morning walked into the operating
room of tho Wesley Hospital and
tasked his life in one of the most
painful operations known in order
that a woman he had aeen only a
few times might bo saved from i
borriblo death.
From each of young Bozeman’s
thighs the surgeon peeled four 01
five strips of skin an Inch In width
and 'little over a foot in length
and grafted this live flesh on the
limbs and body of Mrs. M, A. Arnold
S3 years of age, a patient in the
charity ward, who had. been scalded
from the waist down five or six
months ago.
Bozeman heard of the woman’s
predicament, and had promptly of
fered himself for the sacrlflc. He
Is a modest, handsome young fellow
ami makes light of the^tacrifloe.
Mrs. Arnold’s homo Is three miles
from Ty Ty, and rfx? months ago,
when carrying a pot of boiling water
from the yard Into tbs bouse, her
foot slipped on a loose glank and the
skin wa« scalded from her body from
the waist down.
She has three young children, an :
the family being poor, the oldest
child, a lad Just entering his teens,
nursed his mother day and night
for months in hope of her recovery.
Ho looked after the other children
at the same time. Neighbors saw
the plight of tho family, and a few
weeks ago Miss Ethel Hoffman, a
trained nurse of Fltsger&M, who hap
pened to he In Ty Ty, took the case
in hand.
Miss Hoffman telejjdioned the Wes
ley Memorial HotfpltU and founa
that the hospital would take* the
case.
Paying her owti expenses the
nurse placed her In the chartty ward.
Two weeks ago it found that to
save the woman’s^ life aome one
would have to undfrgo th® painful
skin operation, and young Boxeman,
who was going to School nt Ty Ty,

LEADS FIGHT
UN FEE SYSTEM
Fulton County Will Make a
Stand Before Next Legisla
ture on Subject.
Atlanta, May 18.—Fulton county
proposes to take the lead next month
In a fight before the legislature to
abolish the fee system for paying
entirely, and put ev
ery county officer In Georgia on a
straight salary.
The Fulton member of the legis
lature, McElreath, Westmoreland
and Brown, and Senator J. M. Slaton,
have received letters calling atten
tlon to the fact that the county ex
ecutive committee has decided
against the fee system, and that in
a primary election the people ot this
county cxpressel themselves almoat
six to one against the fee system.
A change In he law would affect
sheriffs, clerks of court, solicitors
general, and tax collectors.
