naval militia ships, torpedo and
submarine boats which, under the
direction of Commander Eberlee
and manned by naval militia, Is en
deavoring to save the city from the
“hostile** guns.
The garrison and big forts along
the shore are also on the repulse, at
tacking the squadron as it advances
in the mimic warfare, which Is now
on.
Battleships Were Repulsed.
Newport, R. I., July 19—The first
“battle** In the naval attack on New
York was fought today when sev
enteen monster battleships of the
American navy made a mimic attack
upon the forts guarding that city,
and churning the waters of Long
Island Sound just as though actua
war .was in progress.
It Is believed that the Invading
battleships have been repulsed.
The submarine forts saved Great
er New York. The engagement be
gan off Black Island.

answer.
He admitted that competition was
not so keen as before the beet sugar
properties were bought.

Governor Smith is accredited with

harmonized factions on the subject

It seems that J, T. Young, an eld

Mr. O'Neal In Florida several years
ago and took a special fancy to
him. This Mr. Young died recently

Curry. "I think he should run,
and, though I have no right to
