Mr. Jon.v Howard Paj.ve, who, together
with John Ross, the Cherokee, Chief, was
lately seized at the house of the latter by the
Georgia Guard, Itas availed himself of the oc
casion to inflict upon the public eight mortal
columns of the dullest, most fatiguing narrative
it was ever our fortune to encounter. A con
cise statement of the principal facts connected
with the outrage, if given in about half a co
lumn of an ordinary newspaper, would have
been read with interest; hut to wade through
this mass of verbiage merely to learn that
Messrs. Ross and Payne were seized by a party
of desppradoes, called the Georgia Guard,
carried over the Georgia line, kept under dti
ress for a day or two and then released, would
he paving quite too much for the whistle. If
Mr. Pavnc succeeds in making his intended
“literary periodical” as uninteresting as he has
this account of his capture, it will certainly be
a very remarkable toork—Nash. Ban.

TEXAS.
By the arrivals yesterday and the politeness of
our friends, we have been put in possession of
late and important intelligence front Texas.—
Tlio cause of liberty goes bravely on. The seige
of Italiar goes hravelv on- The Mexicans have
shut themselves closely within the walls of the
place; hut the arrival of heavy cannon was dai
ly expected by the Texians, and by this time the
place has doubtlessly been forced to surrender.
In fact, on the 24tb ult., oven with the small
pieces the Scscigcrs hail with them, they had al
ready made a small breach in the church of Ba-
har which the Mexicans hare converted into n
citadel.
A troop of Tesians under Capt. ’'’avis, have
taken about three hundred head of horses from
tlie enemy, these will he of the greatest utility in
organizing companies of cavalry.
The Indiaus in several instances have attacked
the Texians. Lieu:. Collingswood was fired up
on by -a party of them near Goliad and killed.
The supplies sent from this city have been re
ceived with grateful feelings by the Texians.—
Thc Lonveution had appointed it committee 011
the subject. This committee on the affairs of
Tex ts of this city, in which the sincercst thanks
are expressed for thc timely interposition of our
citizens in behalf of Texas. The convention has
appointed Mr. Ed. Hall to be the Texian agent
in Now Orleans; and has tlirected him to pur
chase several pieces of cannon wrh necessary
equipages, ammunition. &c.
