GENERAL orders
T HE hostile cogduct of ike Crook Indians in A'n-

makes it proper that a sufficient poruianeut military
force should be kept tip on the fine of the Chattnlioo-
chie, to protect the peopled' this State from the tom
ahawk and scalping knife. The Cotmtiaiider-iu-Chti'f
has therefore determined to raise by voluntary enlist
ment. three battalions of militia, which, together with
the battalion now tinder command of iWaj. Howard '
will constitute two full regiments, who will he required i

lion tier, unless sotuer discharged. These battalions!
must consist each, of at least four companies, and each ]
company of one captain, one lir^t anu second iieuteu- j
ant, and one ensign, fonr sergeants, four corporals j
and sixty-four privates. It is desirable that these j
troops should be raised front the counties bordering on j
the Cha'tnhoockie; but ns ijie immediate necessity for j
their services will not admit of delay, they will bo ac-:
copied from any part of the State, if ofi’ered immedi-1
ately. and before the requisite number is conrph trd —
It is desirable to have at least four companies of moun
ted men.
The citizens of Georgia are now invited to form
these companies, elect their officers nr,d report to Head
Quarters without delay. The A’plumper companies
