and whereas it is also a great disideratum with the body to
retire the Change Bills issugit by the City.
Be it therefore Resolved, That the City Treasurer re-

Resotred, That the City Treasurer advertise that the
Books will be 0|>nned fur the payment of the Taxes for the

An Ordinance
To prohibit Slaves and Free persons or colour from hold
ing or owning slock in the city of Macon.
Sec. I. Be it ordained by llie Mayor nnd Council of
the citv of Macon, and it is hereby ordained by tbe author
ity ofthe same; Thai from and after the 1st day of Octo
ber next, no slave or free person of colour shall be permit
ted u> have, hold or own within the city of Macun. any
slock of tbe following kind, to wit i horses, mules, oallle,
sheep, goats, or hogs, or any or either of the above named
animaU.
Sec 2 Be it further ordained by tbe authority afore
said. That it shall be. and i« hereby nude the duly of the
Marshall of said City, from and alter the said 1st day of
Octnbei aext, to seize and secure every and all animala,
held or owned by any slave or free person of colour, in vi
olation of the fir*i Section of this Ordinance, and proceed
to sell the same at public outcry, at the Market house,, afier
giving five days public notice by advertisement at tbe Post
Office and Market house, of such seizure and sale, together
with a full description, im luding colour, marks and brands
of the animal or animals so seized as aforesaid.
Sec. 3. Be it further ordained ; That upon affidavit
made by any free white person, that any stock seized iu
pursuance of the above ordinances, is bonatied his or her
property, it shall be tbe duly of the Marshall forthwith to
relea-e and deliver such stock tn the patty claiming, and
making affidavilas aforesaid, without cost.
Sec. 4. And be it further ordained: That the procoeds
of all seizures and sales made in pursuance of the fore
geing ordinance, alter the payment of all costs i>r impound
ing aud keepiqg the animal or animal* so seized and sold,
shall go.one half totheMarshsU and his Deputy, and the
other naif shall be paid into the city Treasury.

for a time his profession ; now that it is considerably im

patrons, and citizens generally, that he will resume his du
ties as as It Teacher at me time above specified. He there

unremitting exerti ms in the discharge of all his duties, he
wiH be able to merit the approbation, and secure the friend
