Chattanooga. April 30—A dis
patch from the government works
at Muscle Shoals, an the Tencss e
river, Florence, Alabama, gives
the following details of tho lynch
ing on Saturday of George Ware,
colored, who murdered a white
boy ngad twelve, to secure twelve

to the boy. After robbing his
victim he threw the lad eight
times into the river, but the boy
swam back to the shore. After
thus amusing himself he lied the
boy, beat out his brains with
atone and again threw him in.

Browne died in Memphis, Tent),
soon after the war, aud he was
alone in 'his world, but beloved
by all who know him well. Gen.
Browne,w* tho chairman of the
McDaniel caucus in the late con
vention. He was also chairman
of the Sabbath School committee
of the North Georgia Conference.
Gen Browne was ait eminent
scholar, a perfect gentleman, and
u true Christian.

General Win. V. Browne, prof-
fessor of agriculture and horticul
ture in the University of Goorgia,
died of pneumonia in Athens, Ga.
on the afternoou of April 28th.
His was an eventful life. Born in
Mayo, Ireland, 1827, he occupied
several diplomatic pvsitious un
til 1851. He came to this coun-

Buchanan. When Georgia sece
ded Gen. Browne cast his fortunes
with the south, and by his warm
friend, Ex-President Jefferson
Davis, was commissioned into
