A Narrow Ksrupe.
On last Saturday afternoon, as
pass’iiger train No. 54, which
passps Dallas at about 3 o’clock,
p. in., was nearing the south end
of Big Raccoon trestle, tin-

Lynch, if the miserable miscreant
that placed it there could have
been caught just then, his in-u-

on tho spot. Capt. Georue Gur
ley, one of the best conductors
that ever pulled a bell line on any
road, was very, very warm, and
we are not going to tell his Sun
day school superintendent what
he—thought.
The protracted meeting, which
lias been held far the past two
weeks at the Baptist church, has
closed for the present. The pas
toral duties ot our ministers of the
several churches iu other fields
necess irily called them away, and
they were compelled to suspend
their labors hen for the present.
The meetings resulted in great
good, aud gave promise of an
awakening that will, iu the near
future, it is to be hoped, be en
joyed by all the churches, and

to go down to the pond, where

sad news to the drowned boy’s
aged mother, who was a mile dis
tant, at home sick; it is feared
that the shock will cause her 1
death. The body remained un
der water about an hour before
being taken out. Little boys, do
not venture into deep water, lost
you might meet the siul fate of
young Story. He is dead—no
more tj embrace a kind aud love-
ing father and mother here ou
earth, Wo extend our kind con
dolence to the bereave i family.

It is my painful duty to an
nounce the death of Uncle Sea
born S. McGarrity, who died at
his residence Tuesday night tho
15th inst. Almost the entire com
munity attended his burial at
Pleasant Grove c lunch to-day.
Very great sympathy was mani
fested by all present. Deceased
was among the oldest settlers in
this part of the county. He was
noted for his untiring industry
ami for the special care and at
tention which he bes owed upon
bis family, Ho commenced life
poor, but had accumulated somo
means, besides giving all his
children a moderate education.

The rain that fell last Sunday
evening was very much needed.
The health of the settlement is
improving,
List Sunday was set apart to
organize a Sabbath School at Mt,
Zion; but few in attendance, anil
was postp mod till the fourth
Sabbath iu this month. AVe do
appeal to all good people in this
community to take an active part
iu organizing a Sabbath school at
Mount Zion, we have a great
many young people and children
in our midst that spends tlie
Sabbath iu folly. Some of them
that have arrived to years of ma
turity, can’t read the Bible. Ev
ery one should not let these op
portunities slip. Come father,
mother, and all the little folks,
and learn s miething of Jesi.s,
that you may have a name in the
