The August term of Paulding
Superior Court might be called
this time, the first for nearly a
quart r of a century, a temper
ance court. Immediately upon
th* opening of court the town uu-
thoriti a ordered the closing of
all saloons, and it was indeed pa
thetic, as well as novel, to see
the boys, accustomed to their
nip, sitting ar>und ihe well up>n
the square all day, somewhat ro-
aembling patience upon a mouu-
uent, etc.
Hon. Mark H. Blaudfoid, of
Muscogee, was el- cted by the Leg

The unfortunate invalid, Mrs.
Ogletree, mother of Chas. Ogle

received at the county alms-house,
and her amiable son is lu/kiug
somewhere in the vicinity of lii
ram dodging the bailiff.
Mr. J. J. Wood, of Nebo, P. O.

of his grnpes, rich, luscious and
altogether excellent, Mr. Wood
has about one eighih of an acre
in bearing this year, upon which
ho has an many as right varieties,
and he desires information upon
the manner of cultivation, and •
description of the best varieties
adapt d to our climate. Any one
familiar with the management of
gripes will confer a f*vor by re
sponding through the columns of

Curiosities of Nature.
Mr. W oi W. Smith has certainly nn
eye for 'he rare end the beautiful.
Me brought into our office a small
insect he hud c ptured near his solioo 1
bouse during one of his strolls, ami
while studying the beauties and de
formities of nature that posessed pecu
liar characteristics, a worm onaased in
a cocoon cotnpoxtd of shells, enrolls,
minute crustocal, etc.. which snr-
rcuuding conrtituded the domici'e ot
the worm, No naturalist has ever
classified Prof, Wesley Smith’s curios
ity, and he justly deserves the honor
of the discovery.
Marcua A. Brown, who has re
cently been advertised so exten
sively for an assault with intent
to murder, in this county some
two or three weeks ago, and who
has been eluding his pursuers so
successfully, was captured by Mr.
Rufus Pearson last Saturday
morning in the vicinity of his
brother-in-law's, andarraug>-d be
fore Justices W. A. J, Lee and
W. M- VVooddall, at this place.
Brown waived trial, would not
make bond, aud went to jail.
Mr. Lit Brown, father of Mar
cus, is a very popular and up
right and true man, and lias the
spmpathy of the jeople generally.
The ioe cr am fust val, given on
Aug. 2nd, f r the benefit of the
Methodist church, was a complete
success, netting something, over
twenty dollars. Misses Fannie
and N ttie Robertson, two accon^-

and Miss Josie Wilks, a charming
young lady of Gainesville, Ga, de
serve great praise f r their untir

conaumation of their plans over,
we are sorry to say, a certain
amount of opposition. Mrs. Dr.
Robertson and Mrs. Clonta bad

Tin gr-b bag, which afforded
much fun for the young folks, was
handled very su.ccessfuily by three

three fourths of an inch long, and

Rope Walking and Legerdemain.
Dallas was somewhat enlivened
by a tight rope or eable perfor

followed at ai >ht by a aleight of
hand performance in the court
house. The attendance we are in
formed waa fairer than the bIiow.
The most exoiting part of the
