It hu been apparent for a long
lime that the whole ay at. Jin of gi
gantic robbery which evidently
prevails Inside and outside of the
bureau is the deliberate work of a
bund of conspirators who long since
entrenched themselves in power.
Pension commissioners one after
another, except the present ineum-
bent, have tried to bring about
some aort of reform, but without
success, except to a re»y limited
•xtent. The fact app to be
that the pension ring L:created
the legislation under which the
bureau was operated, and then ee
cured I ho appointment of a crea
ture of its own at every vital point.
So one year after another they
snap their Anger at overwhelming
public protest, at the executive and
at congress itself. The average
member of the national legislative
body does not own the hide he
stands n when it cornea to dealing
w tli pension matters. He is al
v ays in terror lest the toldier vote,
and the wrath of tho:e in sympe
thy with it, should bring upon him
p ilitical condemnation and banish
ment in disgrace from public life
Tim is no time for maudlin senti
mont of any kind. Every honest
und deserving pensioner should be
talon care of, and none such
have anything to fear from turn
ing on the light. But the govern
mentof the United States is being
robbed as no other government on
the face of the earth, and the time
has come when this monstrous
wrong sliquld be ended. It is by
all odds the worst scandal that hu s
ever bofallen the republic. Let it
bu speedily and effectively wiped
out.—Philadelphia Teleyraph, 1ml.

No heartrending wails and shrieks

over Ti Yuk portals such as Dante
writes over the gates of Hades:
Abandon hope all ye who enter

purgatorial aad remedial. Dante's
Inferno, like the Chinese Yam-kan,
is placed under tho earth. Budd

there was no hope of salvation
Life's chains and trammels must

The professor was in the midst of
a tedious definition of the crime of
murder with nil the different shades

The bright young man went on
with the killing until he had them

‘•Now, professor tell me who

The law professor replied: “I
