One of the few things that c r
h ■ si.id to the ere.lit of L. F. Liv
ingslon, congressman from the 5th
district is, that the 3rd party are
against him.
The 3rd partyites a:v pretending
to c j »y w hat they believe lo bu u

lor federal | atronage, 'I'he demo-
cm Is can stand a few earthquake
shocks and still be able to swallow

Rccanse Donglasvillo, one of
Georgia's small but energetic towns,
is gratified by the appointment of
J. 8. James to the position of dis
trict attorney, Tom Watson need
not think that the whole of crea
lion will ho forever frenzied with
dolight.
Since the appearance of the first
issue of The News its editor lias
been addressed us “captain” by a
Carrollton lawyer, “honorable” by
a resident of Randolph county and,
“colonel" by the press. Who said
tlieie was no glory' in editing a
country newspaper?—Villa Mai
News,
The County Treasurer’s
Election.
In the election for county treas
urer, last Tuesday, Mr. B. F. Ha*
gin, third party nominee, received
697 votes, Mr. W, J, Grogan, in
dependent, received 314 votes.
While Mr. Grogan was badly
defeated, he bus good reason to be
gratified by the result of the dec*
tion.
lle.ctofore, both Mr. Hagin and
Mr. Grogan have been 8rd party
men. Both were candidates in th e
3rd party convention. Mr. Hagin
received the nomination of the 3rd
party convention.
Mr. Grogan thought he had been
unfairly treated, and entered the
race as an independent.
Mr. Hagin received the support
of the 3rd partyites who think the
salvation of the world, and the
millennium, depend upon the sue
cess of the 3rd party.
The democrats, as a party, could
not veto for Mr Grogan, neither
c mid those of the 3rd party whe
put their trust in their party above
all things.
The logical result was that M
Hagin received the votes of his
zealous 3rd party friends, while Mr,
Grogan's vote was confined to hi
personal friends.
The result was that out of a vote
of 911, Mr. Grogan got 314 votes.
As this vote represen's that mti
ll y personal friends out of at a lo'-aj
vote of 911, we think lie has good
grounds for self-congratulation.
