He stated that

a great deal of the eridenco would

weeks, In utter disregard of the
lights and convenience of the public,
no apparent attention being given to
removing obstructions and providing
cross'lngs, tho people of Albany will
probably think twice—or maybe three
times—before they ask for any more
paving of either streets or sidewalks
under the present administration.
The continued neglect of the post-
office corner and of the corners at the
Intersection of Washington and Pine

streets, to say nothing of the failure
to provldo sidewalk crossings across
Pino street along the east side of
Jackson and across the same street
on both shlos of Washington, Is with
out apparent oxcuse.
It affords The Herald no pleasure
to ho criticising the City Council—for
tlioro is whoro tho responsibility lies
—but the peoplo have suffered enough
Inconvenience on necount of the ln-
dlfferonco of those In authority ovor
the street and sidewalk paving that
has been under way for some time,
and now that wo have started, we are
going to kick until relief comes.
Wo all know that streots nnd side
walks have to be torn up for paving,
hut they should be put In order and
restored to tho public for safe and
convenient use us fast ns the paving
is done, But Instead of this, patches
nnd • unpavod comers, with ditches
and mud-hanks, are left to annoy the
public nnd make It Impossible for a
man or a woman to walk dry-shod
around a block that Is supposed to
ho pnvod.
After all tlio tearing up that has
boon done and with nil tho sidewalk
paving that has been laid, we haven’t
n continuously paved or completed
block of paved walk yot. There le
no appnront oxcuso for this, and It
looks like indifference to tho rights
and comfort of the public on the part
of tho street commtttoo of the City
Council, which 1ms thlB work In
charge.
Take nil tho year to lay tho pave-
meats, It necessary, dear City Fath
ers, but do stop this slip-shod patch-
work, nnd pave ns you go, leaving no
excavations, unpavod corners or other
:,aps behind.
