eventually 1 turn. The "Into sight" fig
ures for the week are on the whole
considered none what large, neverthe
less the total movement since the 1st
of September still remains behind
1904. But these facts seem to be of
little Interest to the trade, certainly
not as far as any effect on the present
market Is concerned and all eyes seem
turned toward the event of the plant
ing season, some with misgivings and
some with the greatest of hope.

Liverpool’s opening was very tame
at 2 down. The heavy sales there,
however, continue. This can he con
strued as either bearish or bullish.
There Is a growing feeling that the
bears are overdoing the thing.
New Orleans advises that a heavy-
long Interest there has been liqui
dated.
The air continues to he filled with
rumors of the Tho'.nas-Hoadley hold
ing and financing movement organized
by Harvey Jordan, who Is now in New
York, hut It Is nlT talk as yet.

NEW ORLEAN3 COTTON LETTER
(Br Wire to Clark A Go.l
New Orleans, Feb. 9. —Liverpool
was somewhat disappointing when the
American rings opened today and the
foreign market gave unmistakable
signs of being greatly discouraged at
the absolute disinterestedness dis
played on this side of the Atlantic in
their continual failure to Bupport pres
ent prices. The tope on the closing
was barely steady, with prices at a de
cline of from 3 to 4 points from yes-
tordny. Sales of 10,000 boles at n
decline of 8 points were rccorcjed.
The course of the locnl market
throughout today’s session has been
about ns uninteresting an affair as
can welt be imagined. Outside orders
of consequence were few and far be
tween and the continued absence of
the public from speculative pursuits
Is ono of the primary causes of the
narrowness oC fluctuations. News of
any consequence was conspicuous by
Us absence and holped along the
lackadaisical condition In evidence.
Whatever the drollne has been and
to what further oxtent it may con
tinue, spot holders have departed but
little from their original Intentions.
Hero and there on the decline weak
ness has been displayed, but every
such liquidation lias left the Balance
on so much surer footing. Thero
seems every reason to believe that a
largo proportion of the cotton that re
mains Is tn strong hands for having
held through a rather severe shrink
age of prices, they argue that this
lirocess can not gi, on forever and the
market like the proverbial worm will
Texas hears continue to flood the
market with news of “more cotton to
gin.”
The best merchants tn Liverpool
think favorably dt cotton, and their
views are based on phenomenal trade
conditions throughout Europe.

Shouting does a great deal to win
a baseball game, but to really win you
must have some base hits, and the
hull side just now needs base bits in
the shape of buying orders.
People who draw bearish conclu
sions frorfl - the comparative move
ment must not forget that the move
ment last year at this time was the
lightest on record.
While the backbone of bull specu
lation appears to bo broken, we have
seen broken-backed entn "come back”
and give all quite a ebase.
There Is no chaace to Increase the
acreage this year. In fact, labir for
the cotton fields Is scarcer than one
year ago.
October Is 10.26. It will take a crop
next year of 13,000,000 to force the
fall positions lower. Buy October.
Liverpool closed 4 down for the day.
The situation offers little that ts
really new.
