W. P. Scruggs, of the Seaboard, Tells
Savannshans of the Progress of this
City.
The following from the Savannah
Morning News of Saturday, will he of
Interest to Albanians:
Mr. Wlrtly P. Scruggs, traveling
passenger agent tor the Seaboard Air;
Line, returned yesterday from Albany,
where he got the veterans In line for
the movement to the New Orleans re
union, and In addition noted the
strides which Albany Is making toward
a greater olty.
,'“Albany Is going right ahead,” said
Mr. Scruggs,' “and there Is no telling
where or when the town will stop with
‘hold, enough!’ I do not think she
Is going to stop, for the way John
Betjeman Is \ working gives promise
that Albany Is destined to a growth
unprecedented In the examples here
tofore set by South Georgia,cities.
“They are paving the main streets,
for one thing,” continued Mr.. Scruggs,
"and a Savannah contractor Is doing
the work. They have established a
boat line between Albany and Bain-
bridge, for another thing, and still
another Is the establishment of an ex
press line on the Albany & Northern,
between Albany and Cordele. These
are all recent steps forward, and there
are others.”
Mr. Betjeman, to whom Mr. Scruggs
made reference, was formerly a Sa
vannah resident and recently became
secretary of the Business Men’s
League of Albany. Secretary Betje
man Is a live wire and affords example
of what a wide-awake secretary may
