Yesterday afternoon at 6 o’clock at
the corner ot Pine and Washington
streets a most deplorable accident oc
curred. Mrs. Henry McClendon and
Mrs. W. J. Hall were # ln a buggy, wait

that Will Ford, a negro drayman, had
left his dray and gone to get a drink.
The mule walked off, and after run
ning Into one buggy, without doing
any damage, though, ran into the bug
gy at Rosenberg’s corner, occupied by,
Mrs. Henry McClendon and Mrs. W. J.
Hall. The shafts struck the back of
the buggy and lifted the top off abd
knocked off the seat. Mre. McClendon
fell over the fropt of the buggy; under
the horse’s heels. It is a miracle that
the horse did not run. However, he
was frightened and began to jump up
and down. The horse was led oft and

pars. Hall was also thrown out of the
| buggy, and, while a little bruised tip,
! la not seriously hurt.
Mrs. McClendon will be confined to
her room (or several days, her Injuries
being painful, but not serious.
- After the affair the drayman got his
mule and made off. Officer Wjldea
went after him to arrest him. He left
hla mule and ran, on seeing he type
pursued, but was caught at hlB house.
He Is now in police barracks. His
case will probably be severely dealt
with. The practice of leaving drays
loose on the street Is getting to be too
common.
