tary of State of Georgia:
The petition of W. M. Legg, H. J.,
Bruton, A. H. Russell and M. D. Pow
ell, of Bainbrldge, Decatur county,
Georgia; M. A. McRainey, of Baker
county, -Georgia; W. W\ Gordon, Jr.,
of Savannah, Georgia; W. H. Milton,
of Marianna, Florida; E. V. Babcock
and F. R. Babcock, of Pittsburg, Penn
sylvania; D. S. Pate and G. J. Pope,
of Chicago, Illinois, respectfully show-
eth:
• 1st.—That they desire to be incor
porated as a railroad company under
the name and style of The Georgia
Southwestern and Gulf Railroad Com
pany; the length of said road, as near
as can be estimated, will be One Hun
dred and Fifty-Five (165) miles,* and
the general direction of said road will
be In a Southwesterly direction from
Dawson, Georgia, and Albany, Geor
gia.
2nd.—The Countieu through which
said road will probaily run are-Ter
rell, Calhoun, Dougherty, Baker, .Mil
ler and, Decatur Counties in Georgia,
and Jackson, Calhoun and Washington
Counties In Florida.
3rd.—The principal places from
which and to whlbh said Railroad is
to be constructed aie from Dawson,
Georgia, and Albany, Georgia, to some
point on the Gulf ol Mexico In Cal
houn or Washington County, In Flor
ida.
4th.—’The amoun t of the proposed
capital stock shall he Three Hundred
Thousand Dollars ($300,000), and said
corporation is to continue for One
Hundred and One (101) years.
5th.—The principal office of said
Railroad Company is to be located in
the City of Albany, Dougherty County,
Georgia.
6th.—Petitioners do iutend in good
faith to go forward without delay to
procure subscriptions to . the capital
stock and construct, equip, maintain
and operate said Railroad.
Wherefore, petitioners pray that af
ter the proper notice has been given of
their intention to applj for this Char
ter, that they bp Incorporated under
the laws of Georgia as The Georgia
Southwestern and Ciulf Railroad Com
pany, with s.ll the rights and privi
leges of such corporations.

Florida. The length thereof, as near
ly ns • can be estimated, will be, in
Georgia, about seventy-five (76) miles,
and in Florida about ten (10) miles
from the Florida state line to Quincy,
and about seventy-two (72) miles from
Quincy to Apalachicola, making an ag
gregate length of railroad in Georgia
and Florida of about one hundred and
fifty-seven (157) miles. The general
direction in which it Is to run from
Albany is a -little west of south.
Third. They desire that said cor
poration shall continue for one hun
dred and one (101) years; that it shall
have a-capital stock of Ten Thousand
Dollars ($10,000), consisting entirely
of common stock, with the privilege of
increasing the same from time to time
as provided by law, and that its prin
cipal office be located in Savannah, in
Chatham County, Georgia.
Fourth. Petitioners do intend in
|ood faith to go forward without de
lay to secure subscriptions to the cap
ital stock, construct, equip, maintain
and. operate said railway, and have
given four (4) weeks’ notice of their
intention to apply for .this charter by
the publication of this petition In one
of the newspapers in which Sheriff's
advertisements are published in each
of tile Georgia counties through which,
paid railway will probably run, once
a week for four weeks before the filing
of this petition.
Wherefore, petitioners prav that
they may be incorporated under the
laws of this'State as a railway cor
poration as aforesaid.

About Our City and Her Ways and
Some of Her Enterprises.

Atlanta, Ga., June j,—“If the courts
don’t fix you, I will,” angrily exclaimed
H. H., Stowers in police court yester
day at the conclusion of the trial of
W. P. Avary, bartender for A, O. Min-
hlnnet on Decatur street, who had
been arrested on a chqrge of selling
beer to Mercer Stowers, minor son of
H. H. Stowers. As he made the state
ment, §towers shook his first in the
face of the bartender. Both Avary and
George Acey, a negro porter in the
saloon, were bound over to the state
courts by the recorder, who fixed their
bonds at $100 each. They . were
charged with selling liquors to a mi
nor. . Ypung Stowers is 18 years of
age. He testified that be had bought
beer from both the bartender and the
nppo porter,. Avary, pfter the y.puth
testified, appeared very angry and de
manded that the recorder bind the boy
over on a charge of entering a saloon.
To this the recorder replied that en
tering a saloon was not a state of
fense, but merely violation of a city
ordinance. He fined young Stowers
$5.75.

The convention is said to have been
one of the most pleasant held in years
nnd the local Elks are well pleased
with the hospitable welcome they re

In discussing the city of Albany, one
of the delegates, who Is well known
for his intelligence and .progressive
ness, declared that he was Impressed
by the flourishing city in four different
