There were fifty present at the
Bettis Chapel Sunday school last
Sunday. The prospect for a suc¬
cessful school is indeed very flatter
ing. The sagging class led by Mr.
Mauldin, is haid to excel. We saw
a sweet, tender child, of about
four or fivq years of age, hymning
away at the songs of Zion with the
class. Her voice sounded baby¬
like, therefore very sweet and as
they sang of the heavenly world,
we could but think of the millions
of children up there who belong to
the ransomed choir and who make
the walls ol God's upper temple
ring with their triumphant songs.
Notwithstanding the rain on
last Friday was almost incessant,
it was our pleasure to attend the
closing exercise s of the Coosawat

The exercises during the day con¬
sisted mostly in examining the
different classes, each class did
credit to themselves and‘professor
In the afternoon Prof. Haggard of
Ringgold, formerly of Murray,
made a very practical common
sense address. At night came the
exhibition, which being inlerspers

made it an important feature of
the entertainment. Co]. 0 N Starr
of Calhoun, was then called upoq
to deliver the prizes for excellen¬

have been well prepared and work¬

quite a mixture of vegetation,
which may be true, but with plenty

Not long since a young man of
t he eighth district, in company with
an older gentleman, were out rab¬
bit hunting and the only fire arms
they carried was an old style army
gun, which was sufficently loaded
to have been of considerable bene¬
fit in bombarding an ancient wall¬
ed city. Soon a rabbit was seen
nestling among the leaves of an old
brush heap. So the pranky young
man being exceedingly anxious to
see his associate sportsman eject
the load from the rusty musket,
handed it to him and bid him fire.
With an instant graceful move¬

The innocent rabbit, was either
blown into atoms or disappeared
from the cloud of smoke unseen.
