Monday of January, 1838. Theßoard of Trustees, while again call- .
iug public attention to this fact, osier some remarks in explanation of a i
new feature which they have given to its character.
The I'niversity will consist of three departments, Collegiate, Acade
mic. and Primary'.
Any person desirous of seeing lhe laws which govern the Collegiate '
department, can obtain a copy of the pamphlet containing them, by

the Board.

I he .Academic Department will consist of those who arc preparing
for admission into this or any other College.
3 he Primary Department will be composed of those pursuing the or-
[ diunry branches of an English education.
: 'J he students in those two departments, as well as the Collegiate,
i will be instructed by the Faculty of tho College.
Inconsequence of this arrangement, hoys, in the early stage of their
literary course, will enjoy advantages perhaps unsurpassed in this coun
try,as they will be taught by a regular Faculty, while the students of
the College will receive tho full amount of instruction ordinarily given
them, as will be seen by a reference to their course of study.
This system will vastly increase the labor of the Faculty ; tins labor
they have however consented to undergo.
I he adoption of this new plan has been caused by the peculiar state
|of the time--. Though the amount on our subscription list is sufficient
i to warrant the commencement of the work in its original form, yet from
I the presentstate of affairs, it would have been more than indelicate to
call upon many individuals for their subscriptions. On the other hand,
many parents have been making their arrangements to send their sons
to Midway, doting the next year. Such persons it would be painful to
disappoint, ye', it would be impossible to proceed for want of funds in
hand, 'lhe course now announced as being adopted, was then propo
| svd—that is, to bring the /Academy and College under the government
and instruction of the some President a-.ul Prolessors. By this arrango
. mentthoexpenses ot the Institution will be sustained, and al! difficulties
in its way removed.
'1 he Board of Trustees take this occasion to say, that after this
year the Steward’s Hall will be discontinued. This is done, that there
may be no hindrance in the way of such persons as may wishto move to
Midway for the purpose of taking boarders.
'I he Trustees close this communication by suggesting to parents, (who
desire their children to be educated, and who cannot afford to send
them abtoad for this purpose) the propriety of settling themselves at
Midway. By taking boarders, the expenses of their family could be
more than sustained, and their children of all ages receive a thorough
ami finished education. To olhets disposed to turn their attention to
keeping boarders as a business, we would suggest that Midway offers
inducements interior to few if any other positions at the South—a heal
thy aud delightful location, and ns many boarders as they may be able
to accommodate. By order of the Executive Committee.

Dear Sir—l embrace this opportunity of offering to you my gratifica

Hable Fills in this section of country. It is a common fault with those j
who compound and vend patent medicines to say too much in their fa- I

tnink they have as yet received unmerited praise.
.';ix i.-iom.lis ago they were almost entirely unknown in this part of ;

In Dyspepsia and fc'ick Headache, derangement of the biliary organs,

thr-m a ■ :!r:jin<l efficient purgative for weakly individuals, and may be

I have tried them—PETERS’ VEGETABLE PlLLS—and found

complaints were Dyspepsia, Liver Complaint and general Debility. 1
have used within tl o last year, nearly fifteen boxes of the above Pills,

C'l ALL.AGIIAN’S VEGETABLE FEVER AND AGUE PILLS.
JT It is now three yeats since GALLIGHAN'S VEGETABLE
I'EVER AND AGI F, PILLS were first introduced to the public.
The success which has already attended their use, though eonfinod,
comparatively, to a limited extent of country, has beea so great, that
the proprietors have found it difficult to meet tho demand created for
them; lint their circumstances having changed, they propose, in the
course of the ensuing year, to extend their sphere of operation to every
section ot the country where the Fever and Ague prevails.
lhe proprietors have a large mass of testimony confirming the re
putation of these pi s, and have made the following extracts from let
ters and certificates, which they respectfully present to lhe public for
consideration. It will at once be seen by this evidence, that no remedy
for the prevailing disease of the Southern and Western States has over
been presented to the notice of the afflicted, with stronger claims for
their attention. Founded upon the surest and soundest of all princi
ples, viz. actual experiment, these pills have been wonderfully successful
in restoring the sick to health, and, in spite of doubts and prejudices,
rhe use ot them, in those parts ot the country which the proprietors
have been able to supply, has been rapidly extending. It is highly en
couraging to them that, among the list of those who have been either
personally bent-fitted by them, or have witnessed their effects on others,
are the names ot many of the most respectable and intelligent men in
the South, who have cheerfully given their written testimony to that
effect.
Letters and Certificates, addressed to the proprietors within tho last three
years, the originals of which are preserved, and may at any limo be
seen by the public.

Messrs- Fletcher !,■ It'cstcott,
Gentlemen—
It affords me grea* pleasure to give my testimony in favor of your
“Gallighan’s l ever and Ague Pilis.” 1 have repeatedly employed
them in my family, and in every ease they have succeeded beyond my
hopes, in effecting thorough and permanent cures. They have also
been used extensively in my neighborhood, dining the past season,
w ith the same happy and salutary effects. The people in this section
of the country cannot too highly appreciate them, for in my opinion,
they stand at the very head of lhe list of medicines for the Fever and
Ague. Be assured 1 shall not fail to recommend them to all persons
whom I may meet w ith afflicted with that troublesome and distressing
disease. Yours respectfully,
W.M. WELLBORN.

Messrs Fletcher S,- Westcott,
Gntlcmcn—lt affords me pleasure to give my testimony in favor of
Gallighan’s Pills. In the course of the last year I have given them a
fair trial, having used upwards of thirty boxes in my practice. On the
strength of what I bad heard respecting them 1 was induced to prescribe
them for my patients, and in every case they proved successful. In
many instances their effect on the system was astonishing, and such as
to establish the fact that they are not only a safe, but a certain euro
for every form of intermittent fever. Within tile circle of my ac
i quaintanee 1 can point to many who have been restored from a low
, stage of disease lo perfect health, some of whom had been afflicted fi r
a very long period and considered ths-ir cases hopeless. I am fully
convinced that the most inveterate and obstinate intermittents must
give way to the powerful influence of your pills, and the constitutioi ,
though broken and impaired by long-continued disease, be speedily r< -
stored to its former strength and healthy condition. I therefore recon -
mend them ta the invalid with the utmost confidence of beneficial re
sults. Respectfully A’ours, &c.
