the name, color, pedigree, or owner or agent’s address, and terms of ail
the dtstitigi.isbed Stallions in the Union, the whole comprising a ma-*

which co nbints every leading feature embraced by the Slud Book, the
Ttirf Register, andjthe Racing Calendar.
The Engli-h Turf will claim our constant, attention, and evervthing
relating to it will be carefully culled from he British Sporting Magazines
and papers, likely to contribute to the interest or information of the
American Bn eder and Turfman. The ••porting Department of the
paper w ill embrace th> - following subjects, respecting w hich every pns
sihle information will be given :
The American and English Turf; Importations nnd sales es blood

sporting circles-, pedigrees and performances of distinguished horses;
hunting, shooting, and fishing; pedestrian, aquatic, and oth r sport*
To relieve the paper from the monotony which might be objected to.
if Spotting Intelligence form'd the exclusive object of attention, a large
space will be devoted each week to the affairs of th*. Drama, and to
light and eleg mt literature. Th" interest* of the American ami English
Stage are so closely anti inseparably connected, that we shall, as hereto
fore. tak? cognizance of both. The Spirit of the Times finds its way
into every Green Room in the Union, and has so mans correspondents
i among the profession, as to have acquired a character for authentic,
exclusive, nnd early Green Room Intelligence, not exceeded by any
journal whatever.
In the literary department the Editor will aim only at culling from
the English and American magazines, the choicest flowers of wit and
sentiment, and with the appliances at his command, he doubts not to
make this portion of his columns gay, graceful, and spirited. And to
I give -zest to the whole, th* Editor will aim to crowd into his edit nns
j all the fun ami frolic of the town, the good things of his friends, and the
I best jokes es his brother Editors. In fine, he hope* to make his paper
I the gay >st and liveliest i-i the world ; yielding ti. none in the char teter

mainly upon the Sporting Department, which will be made as valuable
and comprehensive as labor and expense can make it.

Ilia icatlemie Department will consist ol 'hose who art -
for admission into this or any other College.
I he Primary Department will be composer! of those l urtui’irig the or
dinary- branches of an English education.
! lie students in these two departments, as well as the Collegiate,
will be instructed by the Faculty of the College.
Inconsequence oi th:* arrangement, boys, in the earl* stage of their
literary course, will enjoy advantages perhaps unsurpassedln this coun
try.a* they will be taught by a regular Faculty, w bile the students of
the College will receive the full amount of instruction ordinarily given
them, as will be seen by a reference to their course of study.
This system will vastly increase the labor of the Faculty ; this labor
they have how ever consente to undergo.
The adoption of this new plan has been caused hy the peculiar state
of the times. Though the amount on our subscription list is sufficient ,
to warrant the commencement of the work in it* original form, yet from
the prt sentstate of affairs, it would have been more than indelicate to
call upon many individuals for their subscriptions. On the othet hand,
many parents have been making their arrangements to send their sons
to Midway, during the next year. Such persons it won't! be painful to
disappoint, ye'it would be impossible to proceed for w ant of funds in
hand. The course now announced as being adopted, wasthen propo
sed—-'hat i*. to bring the .Academy ant! ('ollege under the government
ami instruction of the same Ptesiilent ami Professors. By this arrange- ■
meiit the expenses ot the Institution will be sustained, and all difficulties ;
in its tv v removed.
Ihe Board ol Trustees take this occasion to say, that after this
year the Bteward's Hall w ill be discontinued. This is done, that there !
may he no hindrance in the w ay of such persons as may w ishto move to
.Mithva* for the purpose of taking hoarder*.
'I hr Trustee* cln -e this com manic a tim by suggesting to parents, (who
desire their children to he educated, :.nd who cannot afford to send
them abroad for this purpose) the proprirNt of settling themselves at
Midway. By taking hoarders, the expenses of their family could he
more than sit-tained. anti theit children of all ages receive a thorough
ami finished education. To othet* disposed to turn their attention to
keeping hoarders as a business, we would suggest that Midway offers
inducements inferior to few if any other positions at the South—a heal
thy ami delightful location, ami as many hoarders as they may be able
to accommodate. By order of the Executive Committee
