State, passed the 2utb Ddceuber, 1838, entitled “An
Act to piovide for the call of a Convention to reduce tbe
number of the General Asseuibly of’he State aud
for other purposes therein oeuied,” it is provided “That it
shall uc the duty ot his Isiiceilency iiic Governor, to pub
licity to the alterations aud awcudiueute made iu th** Con
stitution, in icfcrence to the reduction of the number of mem
bers composing the Geueral Assembly • and the £rst unday
in October, next after tbe rising of said Convention, he shall

provide for the call of a Convention to reduce the number of
the Getterul Assembly ut the State of Georgia, aud for ether
purposes therein named,’’ passed lite 26th day of December,
1838, having met, under the Prtx-lamatiou of the Governor,
on Monday the Gib day us May, 1839, propose as the final re
sult of their deliberations, the ioilowittg, to be amendments
to the Constitution of the Slate of Georgia, and present the
same to bis Excellency the Governor of the Slate, that pub-
r Icity may be given to said alterations aud amendments, accor
, ding to the sixth secUou ot the Act under which the Conven
tion assembled:
AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE
STATE OF GEORGIA.
The House of Representatives shall be composed of mcm-
I bers from all the Counties which now arc or hereafter may
he included within this Stale, according to their respective
numbers of free white persui’s, aud including three-fifths of
all the people of color—to be ascertained iry an actual ettu
, met ation to be made from time to time, at intervals of seven
' years, as now by law provided. Each county shall he enti
tled to one member. Each county having a representative
population, as above specified, of six thousand persons, shall
be entitled to one additional member ; aud each county hav
ing such rep esentative population of twelve thousand per
sons, shall be entitled to two additional members; but no
county shall have more than three members.

the last census, shall not hereafter be increased, except when
a new county is created ; and it shall bo the duty of the Le
gislature, at their session to be bolden next after the enumer

by law.
