S^The cemetery looks “ever so
muuii*’ better. Three cheers for the
convict force!
So^Cliristmas and New Year will
soon be here. Look out for your
necks, turkeys,
* J@rDuoks must be qnite plentiful
this season on the Altamulm. We hear
of two gentlemen who bagged fifty/
last week, besides losing a great many
wounded ones.
Methodist choir did not
give their concert last Friday night,
ns per notice. If folks don’t do what
they tell us to say they are to do, our
little sheet will lose its reputation for
stating things correctly.
jgyCol. Towns will soon have his
stave machine again in operation. He
will locate this time on Satilla Neck,
near his cutters’ camp, and'thus save
transportation of useless material. We
wish him all the success his pluck and
energy merit.
JKST-Reader, have you paid for your
paper? If not, come up like a man*
and hand us that dollar. We need it -
As small as our paper is, it takes mon
ey to run it. Besides, Christmas is
coming, and we would like to buy a
toy for our little girlie.
|&*The steamer Cuba arrived last
Wednesday, and left for New York on
Thursday, with good freight. We
hope arrangements will soon be made
to give our city that which she needB,
and ought to have,—direct steamship
communication with New York, inde
pendent of every other place. If the
present line can’t furnish it, we hope
Messrs. Littlefield & Tison will give
some other line a chance at it. There
is no use in taking seventeen bites at
the cherry. If there is not business
enough for a line, then abandon it al.
together. If there is, then let’s have
it Come, gentlemen, bestir your
selves.
Shelling Streets.—“Business be
fore pleasure” we say, and to that end
recommend that Monk and Gloucester
streets be shelled from Newcastle st. to
the Bay, also Bay streeefrom Nelson’s
corner to Dure's, instead of fillieg up
the gap in Newcastle street, as recom
mended by some. The former would
udvance the business interests of our
city, in view of the new depot and
wharf arrangements, whereas the lat
ter would only benefit pleasure seek.

Tobacco Culture. —We noticed a
few days since, whilst Btrolling through
Col. DeBruhl’s truck garden, severs
stocks of tobacco growing luxuriantly!
We hear of other parties in this vicin*
ity experimenting in the same way*'
Several of out ueuuamiuuves ill douui.
western Georgia are cultivating this
plant very successfully, and by
the genuine Cuban seed, produce an
article of peculiarly excellent flavor.
We would recommend that others in
this section give this matter a fair trial
and thus develop another of the thou
sand undeveloped resources of this
highly favored section.
We learn that the department of ag
riculture at Washington will furnish
genuine Cuban seed to any who may
wish them. Send on and get a sup
ply.
