Hamilton’s Elixir,
. For Coughs, 15*c. t fc.
From Luthtr Martin, lots attorney general of
the state of Maryldhd.
1 comply with your request in stating ms
epi non of Hamilton’s Elixir. It has been
used in my family for two or three years past,
with uniform success, whenever colds, coughs,
1 . or similar complaints have Tendered medicine
i necessary. 1 have myself found it an excel
i lent and agreeable remedy for a very painful
. and troublesome affection of the breast, accom
( j denied with soreness, and with obstructed and
. ! difficult breathing.
On these accounts I do not hesitate to re
' commend Hamilton’s Elixir as a valuable me
- diems, and deserving public attention.

Hamilton’s Worm Lozenges.
I Letter from the Honorable A C. Hanson, Esq.
• Chancellor of the state <f Maryland, to
, the Editor if the Maryland Gazette.
Sir....For ihc good of as well as
from a d sire to do justice to a man of merit
ana genius, 1 request you to publish the fol
lowing cases:
A young man in my family, who had read
Dr. Hamilton's advertisement, and who had,
for ton e time, as he says, experienced the
, symptoms described by the doctor, as indicat
ing the presence of worms in the human sto
mach or intestines, resolved, without consult
ing any person whatever, to try the doctor’s
remedy.
> lie accordingly procured a box of the Lo
xenges. Last evening he took four of the
II yellow, and this morning he took an equal
number of the brown kind. They did not, as
' he says, operate harshly, except one stool,
when there came from him a worm, perfectly
white, about a yard in length, as broad as his
little finger, and having a number of joints,
an inch or an inch and a quarter distance
from each other.
liesides this worm, he says there came from
him a considerable numb, r of small flat worms,
•bout three quarters of an inch in length, and
nearly the same in breadth. He did not think
of counting them, but lie says there were more
than twenty.
j 1 regret extremely thfct 1 had not an oppor-
I tunity of setntg the tape-worm; the young
; man not having, as he ought to have done,
i taken measures for preserving it, and the sim
| tie servant girl, who attended his chamber,
j having, before I had heard of hit taking the
l medicine thrown it and the o her worms into
j the necessary, not thinking it oi consequ- nee.
ipo take care of them. Ihe girl, however, and
another servant, concurs with him respecting
the worms which appeartu in the vessel; and
the tape-worm, the.j say, was ahv*, so far at
to have monon, afier'it unit iron Em.
It is needless to describe his symptoms, as
he says they were exactly such as. aie describ
ed by the doctor.
1 Another young man of my family also with
out any consultation or advice one evening
and morning, about three months ago, took
seven lozenges, which operated powerfully.
Nd worm came from hint; but in the course
of two or three days he was quite well; and
bas since had a considerable accession of Huh
and strength.
In short, although I, l : ke many others, have
been incredulous with respect to the virtue of
Hamilton’s Lozenges, I am at length perfcct
j convinced of their girat efficacy and utility.
As l cannot reasonably be supposed to have
any motive, except a consideration for the pub
lic good, in publishing these cases, I hatter
mi self that 1 shall not incur ridicule or censure
from unthinking men, for adding my second
hand testimony to the evidence of the numer
ous respectable characters who have aimed to
render justice to Dr. Hamilton, (with whom
I have not the slightest acquaintance,) and to
give important information to their fellow
creatures.
I think it not amiss to add, that, from the
healthy appearance of the young man, who
ha* been so greasy and quickly relieved, I
should have ridiculed his symptoms and appre
hensions, had he communicated thsm to me
before he took the lozenges. The fact, lam
persuaded, is that most young persons, who
are from time to time disordered «yit)im»t any
visable or apparent cause, are feft'ctW by
worms. ff A . / \
