WILLIE HOOKS
Willie Hooks of 1135 Dugas
Street died Thursday (Dec. 20)
in a local hospital.
He was a native of
Sandersville, Ga., but had lived
in Augusta for 30 years. He
was a deacon of Jerusalem
Baptist Church and employed
as a carpenter for Nixon
Construction Co.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Sadie Hooks; three
stepdaughters, Mrs. Miriam
Anderson, Mrs. Mary Lou
King, New York City and Mrs.
Elizabeth Watkins, Brooklyn,
N.Y., one sister, Mrs. Claudia
Neal, Sandersville, Ga.; and
three brothers, George Hooks
and James Hooks,
Milledgeville, Ga., and Nemiah
Hooks, Detroit, Mich.
Friends may call at the
residence or at the funeral
home.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced by William &
Dotson Funeral Home.
CHARLIE MOSS
Charlie Moss of 1566
Wooden Rd. died Friday (Dec.
21) at a local infirmary.
Survivors include one
daughter, Miss Julia Moss, four
sisters, Mrs. Ruby Moore, Mrs.
Mary Wiley, Mrs. Gladys
Wilson, and Mrs. Julia
Bradshaw; three brothers, Mr.
Major Moss, Mr. Albert Moss,
Mr. Robie Moss; two
grandc h i Idern, two
great-grandchildren, neices,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held
today December 27 at Dent’s
Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m.
Interment will be in South
View Cemetery. The funeral
prossesion will leave 1566

Monday (Dec. 24) at her
residence.
She was a native of Wrens,
Ga., but had lived in Augusta
for a number of years. She was
a member of the Ways Grove
Baptist Church, Wrens, and
attended the Spring Hill
Baptist Church, Augusta.
Survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Louise Lomax
and Mrs. Mimia L. Paschall,
Augusta, four sons, Walter
LaFavor, Augusta, Cutecell
LaFavor and Daniel LaFavor,
Augusta, Coleman LaFavor,
Wrens; three sisters, Mrs.
Martha Sexton and Mrs. Annie
Pardue, Augusta, and Mrs.
Emma Moore, Wrens; and two
brothers, C.W. Whitfield,
Augusta; and McKinley
Whitfield, Louisville, Ga.
Funeral services will be

Undertaking Establishment.

buddies, Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby, who seek to apprehend the bandits who held the, up in an after-hours club.
Shown left to right are: Cosby, Poitier, Harry Belafonte, and Calvin Lockhart. The film is being made in Hollywood
by Poitier’s company, Verdon Productions, for First Artists. Poitier wears three hats as Executive Producer,
Director, and acting star. Mel Tucker is the producer. “Uptown Saturday Night” will be released through Warner
Bros.
