The Jackson Team With Gamble And Huff
Epic Records in association
with Philadelphia International
Records have made music
business history by combining
the talents of supergroup, The
Jacksons, with Kenneth
Gamble and Leon Huff.
The result is a debut Epic
single by The Jacksons entitled
’’Enjoy Yourself’ written and
produced by Gamble and Huff
to be released immediately. It
is culled from the group’s long
awaited new album, THE
P.E.C.E.
Comes To
Savannah State
Savannah State’s official
voice, WHCJ Radio, has been
on the air since August of
1975, with its main emphasis
on teaching aspects of
communication in the radio
field to students who attend
the college.
Willie Brown, director of the
radio station, announces that a
program has been devised
through the P.E.C. E. Program,
Program of Education and
Career Exploration, to orient
students in grades seven thru
nine in the public school
system with the operation of a
radio station, from
management to broadcasting.
The overall purpose of the
P.E.C.E. program is to include
students in the actual working
community by letting them
work for short periods of time
in several different work
settings. The students can then
begin to build a base of
knowledge and experience to
help him make future
educational and vocational
desisions. It is exploratory in
nature and is not designed to
train or prepare students for
specific occupations or to
encourage them to make
specific vocational choices.
The P.E.C.E. Program was
initiated in 1969. Brown says
that the students are enrolled
in the Savannah State aspect Oi'
the program for 9 weeks and
can obtain up to 90 hours of
orientation. They learn about
programming, office
procedure, the relationship of
radio to the public, the basis
differences in commercial and
non-commercial radio, the
technical aspects and how to
actually broadcast on the air.
There are currentiy 15
students in the program. Five
different groups of three come
to the station each day,
Monday thru Friday. After this
session is over, another group
of 15 or more will be in the
course during the winter
quarter and it will be like this
the spring quarter also.

JACKSONS, due for release in
mid-October. The material in
the Lp was written in the main
by Gamble and Huff and
includes songs by other writers
in the Mighty Three music
shop.
In commenting on the
album, Michael Jackson said:
“All of us in The Jacksons have
respected Gamble and Huffs
musical talents for a long time
and the combination of our
efforts has been terrific. We are
all looking forward with great
anticipation to working with
them again.”
The Jacksons, discovered
seven years ago in Gary,
Indiana, are one of the very
few acts in the muse business
to have had four consecutive
number one smash singles.

They were “I Want You Back,”
“ABC”, “The Love You Save,”
and “I’ll Be There.” In all, they
have sold more than 60 million
recordings.
The Jacksons are currentiy
working on their CBS-TV
variety show due to be slotted
into the 1977 schedule in
January. Their recent summer
CBS-TV series became the
top-rated show in its time
period, beating out “The
Bionic Woman.”
The teaming of The
Jacksons with Gamble and
Huff on Epic Records is an
auspicious one. Gamble and
Huff have proved time and
again with such acts as the
O.Jays, Billy Paul, Harold
Melvin and The Blue Notes,
MFSB, and most recently, Lou
Rawles, that they are able to
expand into musical markets
that Black performers have
never had acess to before. The
Jacksons are already proven
superstars and now with this
new amalgamation, music
business history is ready to be
made once again.

1. I feel that annexation has strong possibilities for enhancing
the city’s prosperity and growth. I believe that most people,
including those who “said no”, share the same belief. However, to
some, there were some objectionable aspects to the charter as
proposed by the writer of same, which they thought were not to
their best interest and weU being. I am sure that these differences
can and will be resolved.
2. This would be helpful to many people, and especially to
those who would be directly affected by these extra services. The
feasibility of providing these expanded services, I should think,
would be predicated on the extra amount of revenue realized
from these expanded service fares, as over against the additional
cost of operation.

1.1 voted for consolidation. lam also in favor of annexation. I
feel that we must plan and act now in order to preserve the
character and charm of living in the city. Every community must
grow rationaUy without hinderance from artifical barriers such as
city limits. I am in favor of the city undertaking planned rational
annexation not piecemeal annexation. I also feel that the people
in the city and the area proposed to be annexed should have the
right to vote on the issue, I would oppose annexation by
legislative act because such action would infringe upon the
public’s right to decide.
2. I would favor it with certain stipulations. The City
transportation system is heavily subsidized by federal Department
of Transportation grants and is not self-supporting. In fact it loses
money. If bus routes to these areas would be self-supporting
without requiring additional tax dollars I would support it. There
are many federal grants and programs in this area and I would
first explore all possibilities for grants and alternative sources of
revenue before I would favor it.
