A NEW IN¬
VESTMENT.
A number of business men who
have the greatest confidence in
the future of Adel propose to in-
corporate as an investment com*
The first move after in-
corporation will be to erect a
handsome two-story brick build-
ing on the Wilkes corner new oc-
copied by Thk News, postoffice
and Boring grocery.
The proposed structure will have
a frontage of fifty feet on Rail-
road Avenue and sixty to eighty
feet on Fifth Street. The ground
floor will be fitted up with offices
and some offices may also be ar¬
ranged on the second floor. How¬
ever, the intention is to utilize
the second story as a public en-
tertuinmeut hall, similar to Ken-
noil’s Hall which was destroyed
in the February fire.
'rhe move is a most commenda¬
ble one and the investment will
be a big dividend payer. Other
lines pf improvement will becon-
sidered as soon as this is well un¬
der way.
There is much debate over the

Store Burned at Morven.
Edmondson Bros.’ store was
robbed and burned last Monday
morning about 2 o’clock, It is
thought that the house was bl- wn
up with dynamite, as the first
warning they had of the fire was a
very loud report as if something
was blown up. By the time any
one could get to tiie scene the en¬
tire store was on fire and some
parts of the building, such as win¬
dow facings, etc., were found on
th« other side of the street, where
they had been thrown by the ex¬
plosion. Almost the entire con¬
tents of the store were consumed
by the fire, they saving just a few
articles from the front end of the
building. Had it not b«en for the
heavy rain that was falling at
th»t time, the entire block would
have been burned.—Quitman Ad-
vertiser.
LaGrippe Quickly Cured.
“In the winter of 1898 and 1899
I was taken down with a severe
attack of what is called lagrippe,”
says F. L. Hewett, a prominent
druggist of Winfield, Ill. “The
only medicine I used was two bot¬
tles of Chamberlain’s Cough Rem¬
edy. It broke up the cold and
stopped the coughing like magic,
ami I have never since been troub-
led with grippe.” Chamberlain’s
Cough Remedy can alw ays be de-
pended upon to break up a severe
cold and ward off any threatened
attack of pneumonia. Il is
ant to take, too, which makes it
the most desirable and one of the
most popular preparations in use
for these ailments, J or sale by

COL. MITCHELL IN BERRIEN.
He Makes a Campaign Tour and
Takes in the Ancient Town
- of Puddleville.
Capf. R. G, Mitchell of Thom-
asville, was up m Berrien county
last week in the interest of his
candidacy for Judge of thiscircmt
against Hon. E. P. S. Denmark
of Valdosta. They tell a good
story on the Captain at Adel.
While there he expressed a d*-sire
to visit Puddleville and meet, the
“Puddlevillians.” Twenty years
or more ago when the Captain
was Solieiter-General of the
Southern Circuit Puddleville was
a place of considerable note, much
of the Solicitor’s business, in Bor
rien, emanating from that place.
Consequently ths'Captain had
apparently imbibed the idea that
Puddleville was something of a
Berrien metropolis, and it was
but natural that he should desire
to meet and renew oi l acquaint¬
ances with its citizens, ignorant
of the fact that its thriving off¬
spring, Adel, had sapped its vig¬
or and that its glory had faded.
To oblige his friend, Judge L.
E. Lastinger, took the Captain in
Ills buggy and drove out to the
site of the extinct town. They
eav ^ that, the look on the Captain’s
f| e ab the COUJ le drove up to the
lorn*, dilapidated old store house,
and the Judge “nnounced “Cap¬
tain, this is Puddleville,” was a
study—it was blankness personi¬
fied.—Valdosta Times.
