Rain axd Wind.—A very heavy rain fell here on
Tuesday aftefndon aud night— about dark a terrific
gale sprung up which lasted about two hours; con
siderable damage has been done to fencing, also to
the cotton and cane crop in this 6ebtion.
SriEEflfcds &c.—A Large assortment of
goods has recently arrived at the Flint
River Store,, which having been purchased
at reduced prices, will be disposed of like*,
wise. Remember our motto: “Quick sales
and small profits.
STEINiNGER & ECKSTEIN
riiYER N ew«.—The river has been rising slowly for
the last few days, hut not enough for the Steamer
Jackson to come down—we understand it trill re
quire an additional rise of three ietit, fbt fafef to get
out. The steamers St Clair, Fry and Spray hake
made their regular trips this week.
Fancy Toils* Sets, Vases, Messrs. Butts
& Peabody have just received a lot of the prettiest
Toilet Sets, Vases, Cigar holders, &c., ever brought
to this market. No other house in the city keep
such articles that we know of, find if they are suc
cessful in disposing of what they have, they prd
pose to keep a good assortment of such articles
constantly on hand, thereby saving our Citizens
the unnecessary time and expense in sending to
Savannah for them.

Them Pet Stoves.—We were shown by Mr. Hhle

the handsomest stoves we have ever seen brought
to thiscit.y Among the lot, wA saw two that was

Tumbling.—We saw a tumbling match last night
on Water Street, between a darkey barber and a
genuine Mick. They kept tumbling utltil Colonel
Collier came along and told 4 them if they didn’t
stop he’d tumble them down to his hotel* where
upon the fun ceased.
Flre Alarm.— At nihe O’clock oh Monday night
while sitting in our office, we heard the cry of lire;
we soon doDned our “Red Jacket” ahd hurried to
the street, where we found a considerable number
of citizens congregated, and saw the firemen flying
to their respective Engine homes. The alarm
proved to be a false ’One, the first cry of fire having
been made by some unknown party, which was
soon taken up by others. Stonewall Engine com
pany and the Oak City Hook arid Ladder company,
he it said to their credit, were ptomptly bn hand,
and had the fiery demon have shown himkelf, he
would have With a formidable foe in the
Stonewall and Oak City boys.
If the party that created the alarm will gd be
fore the Mayor and confess it, We Will guarantee
that he will receive free board and lodging In the
hotel de Collier for thirty days. Suppose yoh Try
it, you may have to perform A little light Work
with a ball and chain hung to youh leg, but you
certainly wouldn’t object to thttt.
Mayor’s CotfoY.— W. T. Cox, MayoU, presiding.
Business in the Mayor’s Court has been decidedly
dull for this week, "only three cases haVlng been
before it. Allen and Joe Williamß, tWb fancy
young‘‘gemmen” Os ebony hue, got on a wild
“tare,” and assaulted one John Ran'sorae (Coi’d*)
"i 'John not being over loaded with “tangle leg,”
stoou his ground pretty well, against his adversa
ries, until began to pelt him with
when he caved.
Allen nud Joe were far'd five dollars each or
twenty days in the chain gang, They immediately
forked over the “spondulix.”
John Ransorae said he didn’t don nnffin hi!" ■’urn
to beat him bout—the evidence showing that he
had not; he was-consequently discharged.
