The Shepherd Psalm
The LORD is my shepherd; I
shall not want. He maketh me to
lie down in green pastures: he
leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth
me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake. Yea, though
I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no
evil: for thou art with me; thy rod
and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over. Surely
goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life: and I
will dwell in the house of the
LORD for ever.
The earth is the LORD'S, and
the fulness thereof: the world, and
they that dwell therein. For he
hath founded it upon the seas, and
established it upon the floods.
Who shall ascend into the hill
of the LORD? or who shall stand
in his holy place? He that hath
clean hands, and a pure heart;
who hath not lifted up his soul
Inclination and Attitudes
You gently tip your skis over the
brow of the hill. All of a sudden
gravity takes hold. Swoosh.
Down the slope you go. It’s a
steep incline. You’re a novice.
You don’t know how to stop.
Trees fly by.
Suddenly, a huge soft drift en
gulfs you like a soft glove. Whew!
You are looking at the silhou
ette of a small plane from behind.
The silhouette bobs below the
horizontal line in the instrument.
The nose of the plane is down.
You pull back on the wheel
slightly. The little plane in the
instrument shoots above the line.
You’re headed up too fast. You
push back on the wheel to level
the plane. The instrument shows
the plane’s attitude, whether the
unto vanity, nor sworn deceit
fully. He shall receive the bless
ing from the LORD, and righ
teousness from the God of his
salvation. This is the generation
of them that seek him, that seek
thy face, O Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates;
and be ye lift up, ye everlasting
doors; and the King of glory shall
come in. Who is this King of
glory? The LORD strong and
mighty, the LORD mighty in
battle. Lift up your heads, O ye
gates; even lift them up, ye ever
lasting doors; and the King of
glory shall come in. Who is this
King of glory? The LORD of
hosts, he is the King of glory.
Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift
up my soul. O my God, I trust in
thee: let me not be ashamed, let
not mine enemies triumph over
me.

nose is up or down.
The Bible talks about the atti
tude or inclination of our hearts.
“Have this attitude in yourselves
which was also in Christ Jesus”
(Philippians 2:5). A sinful incli
nation of heart speeds down the
slope of sin and rebellion unable
to stop before the fatal crash. The
sinful attitude of heart also noses
downward, away from heaven.
When we are inclined toward
evil and have an affection for sin,
we do not change paths. God must
catch us in the soft gloves of His
abundant grace. God must pull
back on the wheel of our lives and
level off our flight.

Nugget of Truth
The best way to live in the
world is to live above it.
Bible Lesson
The pressure to conform is at its
very greatest during the years
when a young person is moving
from childhood to adulthood.
During that time in our lives we
care more about what our friends
think than just about anything
else. We feel insecure. We want
to be accepted so badly that we
are very vulnerable to group pres
sure. That is why someone said
teenagers move in herds like a
flock of sheep. They want to be
part of a group. Peer pressure
among young people today is one
of the strongest forces for ruin
ing lives
Don’t underestimate the impor
tance of your choices. The story
of Caleb found in Numbers 13
and Joshua 14 describes him as
one of twelve spies sent by Moses
into the Promised Land to scout
out their new home. When the
spies returned, ten of them were
fearful, declaring that the land
was filled with giants and that Is
rael would surely be defeated.
But Caleb and Joshua took the
opposite view, for they remem
bered the promise of the Lord.
Caleb stood before the people of
Israel and declared, “Let us go up
at once and take possession, for
we are well able to overcome it. ”
But the men who had gone up
with him said, “We are not able
to go up against the people, for
they are stronger than we ” (Num-

Here is
the mes
sage for
young
people:
The ma
jority is
wrong
just as often as the majority is
right. And especially during the
teen years, the majority often
makes very bad decisions. And
as it was with Israel, one wrong
decision can ruin a whole genera
tion. Because of Israel’s choice
to listen to the majority of the
spies, an entire generation of Is
raelites wandered in the wilder
ness for forty years. Sometimes
we think, “Well, it doesn't make
any difference. It's just one de
cision.” That one decision could
cost many lives or even your
own. Every choice we make de
termines who we are or has an
impact on who we are or what we
may become.
Every time you decide for God
and for good, you build some
thing into your inward character
that will strengthen you to be who
you ought to be before God. And
every time you decide against
God and against good, you do
something to yourself inside that
makes it easier for you to respond
that way the next time.

A movement has been started
like that from Desert Storm. Dur
ing Desert Storm Americans tied
yellow ribbons anywhere they
could.
Well, now the movement is to
tie purple ribbons the same way.
This is for two reasons.
1. In remembrance of not only
(Nehemiah 8:1 KJV) "And all the
people gathered themselves to
gether as one man into the street
that was before the water gate; and
they spake unto Ezra the scribe to
bring the book of the law of Moses,
which the LORD had commanded
to Israel.”
God still cares about the affairs
of men and is interested in our wel
fare, no matter what some people
try to make us believe. I have heard
many stories of heroism and per
severance over the last several days
since the terrorist attacks on 11th
of September. Many people have
risked their lives to save others, the
nation has pulled together, and nu
merous countries from around the
world have sent encouraging words
to lift us up in a very desperate hour.
Thank God there is still some de
cency in this world, after all.
Please let me draw you attention
to the scripture quoted from the
book of Nehemiah. Something mi
raculous happened - the people
gathered together having one mind
and purpose. Their main desire was
to hear God’s glorious Word, the
very thing they needed in order to
be successful and please their God.
There are two very important prin
ciples here.
First of all, they were together.
They were not divided as to their
goals and ideals, they were in unity.
The Bible says in Psalm 133:1-2 "A
Song of degrees of David. Behold,
how good and how pleasant it is for
brethren to dwell together in unity!
{2} It is like the precious ointment
upon the head, that ran down upon
the beard, even Aaron's beard: that
went down to the skirts of his gar
ments;" God speaks much about
unity. Our nation is coming to
gether in unity, and I'm so thank
ful. Let us continue to work to-
the firefighters, police officers,
paramedics who have died, but
also for all who have died in this
terrible tragedy.
2. Just as in the military, when
a serviceman get injured, he is
given the Purple Heart. Well,
America has been injured to its
core.

gether to further the kingdom of
God in these last days.
Secondly, the people asked for
God's Word. I still believe in revival
and know there is still hope and
blessing for everyone everywhere
who calls upon the name of God
through His Son Jesus Christ. We
are in desperate need of God's eter
nal Word, we must not think we can
survive without it. The old prophet
said in Jeremiah 20:9 "Then I said,
I will not make mention of him, nor
speak any more in his name. But
his word was in mine heart as a
burning fire shut up in my bones,
and I was weary with forbearing,
and I could not stay." This world
has tried to shut up God's Word,
taking it out of our speech and
classrooms, but it is so very need
ful, especially in these trying times.
Let me encourage you all to study
God's Word, to make its pages
come alive to you. Let the Word of
God give you hope and purpose and
bring you to the saving knowledge
of Jesus Christ.
