Alzheimer’s Threatens To
Be An Epidemic

Carter and Jake Wallace.
Alzheimer’s is an equal oppor
tunity disease. One of every ten
Americans over the age of 65,
and half of Americans age 85 and
older has Alzheimer's. Most
people don't know much about
the disease, let alone know how
to pronounce it. Alzheimer's dis
ease threatens to be an epidemic
in the 21st century if no cure is
found.
Alzheimer’s disease (pro
nounced Alz'.hiwmerz) can of-
ten-times be mysterious, elusive
and frustrating for those who
have the disease and those who
love and care for them. It is a de
generative brain disease that usu
ally begins gradually, causing a
person to forget recent events or
familiar tasks. How rapidly it ad
vances varies from person to per
son, but it eventually causes con
fusion, personality and behavior
changes and impaired judgment.
Communication becomes diffi
cult as the affected person
struggles to find words, finish
thoughts or follow directions.
Eventually, most people with
Alzheimer’s disease become un
able to care for themselves. Al
ways fatal, Alzheimer's disease
is the most common form of ir
reversible dementia. Everyday,
millions of American families
feel the overwhelming task of
caring for a loved one. Being a
caregiver is emotionally and
physically draining. November is
National Alzheimer' s Disease
Awareness Month.
Libraries throughout southwest
Georgia will offer educational
brochures and display featured
books regarding Alzheimer's dis
ease. Educational workshops
will be held in Leesburg. Support
Group meetings will be help at

LEE COUNTY
CITIZENS
The gate across the road that used to go
to Burke’s Ferry has been removed by
temporary restraining order. This road
has been abandoned by the county for
almost 40 years. This is known by the
people who live in the area.
Anyone that is concerned about the
treatment of Lee County citizens and
taxpayers in this situation should contact
their commissioner and voice their opin
ion. What is happening to the landowner
in this situation can and may happen to
you!!!
Wake up Lee County and know the truth.

know that this has not been handled
fairly by our local government.

Choir Of
Harlem
to
Perform
If you love a quality mu
sical performance, believe
in supporting great causes
and want to see young
people showcased at their
best, the November 10 per
formance of the Boys Choir
of Harlem is for you.
Girls Incorporated of Al
bany is bringing the Boys
Choir of Harlem to Albany
for a 7 p.m. performance at
the Albany/James H. Gray
Civic Center on November
10. This is the third perfor
mance of the Boys Choir of
Harlem in Albany. Twice
during the last ten years
they have performed to
sold-out audiences in Al
bany.
A recent review of their
performance by the New
York Times says, "The
Boys Choir of Harlem is a
testament to discipline,
high standards and com
mitment. The thought of
these young people joy
ously embracing the sort of
challenge their music re
quires is nothing less than
a clarion call to optimism."
The concert will include
a repertoire embracing
classical and modem mu
sic, popular song, spiritu
als, gospel and jazz - high
lighted by choreography
and an unerring sense of
showmanship. The Boys
Choir regularly tours
throughout North America,
Europe and the Orient. The
choir makes frequent ap
pearances on all major tele
vision networks and has
recently released two re
cordings, recorded with
Kathleen Battle and Flo
rence Quivar. The Boys
Choir was featured on the
soundtrack of the motion
picture "Glory."
Tickets are $15 each and
are available by contacting
Girls Incorporated at 435-
