Lee County Training School Holds Two Day Reunion

SOME two-day weekend
School Reunion Celebra
tion for the school years
1955 to 1970.
The Hospitality (Meet
and Greet) event was
held on Friday, August
2, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. to
10:00 p.m. at the Bind
ery, Oakland Library in
Leesburg, Georgia. Our
Reunion Theme was
“Reunited and It Feels
So Good.” There were
many years of comrad-
ery, reminiscing, and
showing love throughout
the evening. DJ Leonard
Tyson provided some
good dancing music and
Caterer Don Washington
provided a fantastic buf
fet. There were approxi
mately 200 attendees for
the night.
A School Tour was
held on the former
(LCTS) Lee County
Training School grounds
(Lee County High
School 9th Grade Cam
pus) from 10:00 a.m.
to 12:00 p.m. on Sat
urday, August 3, 2019.
We would like to thank
Principal Lawrence for
the spontaneous ap
proval for the tour, and
she designated former
Principal Johnny Golden
to present an overview/
background informa
tion which led up to the
tour. The Committee
presented a check to
former Principal Golden
to assist with students’
supplies at the 9th Grade
Campus.

was held on Saturday,
August 3, 2019 at the
Bindery, Oakland Li
brary, Leesburg, Georgia
from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00
p.m. A great program
was provided by the
Committee, e.g. Chair
person, Wyolean Doster
Cordy, honored 12
former teachers, memo-
riam (candlelight) for our
deceased schoolmates,
and KUDOS to the host
ing Class of 1966.
Ernest Adams was
among those students
who were in the first
graduating class of 1954-
1955. He expounded
upon his memories at
the new school, LCTS.
VICTORIES from three
students, Susan Bell
Reynolds, Brenda Heard
Sheard, and Katye James
Richardson who were
the first students to in
tegrate the all white Lee
County High School,
Leesburg, GA., in 1965-
1966 school year. These
ladies shared many
experiences that they
encompassed during
their Senior year at the
New School, LCHS. Our
guest speaker, Marva
Wingfield McWhite at
tended LCTS up-to-7th
grade. Marva presented
an electrifying mes
sage to the audience. A
great Buffet Dinner was
prepared by Don Wash
ington Caterer, great
music by DJ Tyson,
great photographer by
Johnny Bush and great
Video Recording by
Raymond Hill, Video It.

olean and the committee
members would like to
thank any classmates/
schoolmates who were
instrumental in dissemi
nating and/or reaching
out in different ways to
schoolmates everywhere
helped to make this
reunion a greater one.

Linda Henderson Coston - Class of 1969

Committee is proud
to recognize Linda
Henderson Coston as
a member of the 2019
Class of Distinguished
Alumni. The purpose of
this program is to recog
nize outstanding alumni
who have maintained a
high standard of excel
lence and distinguished
themselves through their
work, personal accom
plishments, or in the
lives of others. These
individuals exemplify
the ideals of the Lee
County School System
and the community it
serves, and thus serve as
role models for current
and future Lee County
High School Students.
Ms. Linda Henderson
Coston, is the oldest of
five children of Charley
Lou Henderson Flowers
and the granddaughter
of Moses and Linda
Henderson. As a child,
Linda grew up in a
household where helping
others and education
were stressed, and, as a
result, she loved learn
ing and excelled in
school. Linda is a grad
uate of the 1969 class
of Lee County Training
School and valedictorian
of the class. She contin
ued her education earn
ing a BBA - Business
Administration from
Albany State University
and an MSA - Busi
ness Management from
Georgia Southwestern
University.
While growing up in
Lee County, Linda real
ized at an early age that
education paved the way
for economic stability
and personal growth.
She knows firsthand that
it can make your dreams
a reality and improve
one’s quality of life.
As a result, Linda has
dedicated more than 20
years to helping indi
viduals achieve their
desires of an education.
She has been employed
by Albany Technical
College since 1993 in
the roles of Director
of Continuous Career
Learning and, currently,
as Vice President of
adult education pro
grams. She established
the Adult Literacy Pro
gram for the college’s
seven county service
delivery area with re
sponsibility for program
operations and grant
writing. She leads the
activities of the Adult
Education and GED
Testing Programs for
seven counties direct
ing student enrollment,
recruitment and reten
tion. Linda has been
phenomenal in provid
ing individuals with the
opportunity to reach
their personal best by
attaining the General
Education Development
Diploma (GED), obtain
ing employment, and
continuing their edu
cation in colleges and
universities throughout
the country.
As a member of
Albany Technical Col
lege’s Leadership Team
with the responsibilities
of strategic planning
and program develop
ment, she has made
many accomplishments
and contributions to the
local community which
include the following:
created the first Adult
Education Program
for Albany Technical
College; co-creator
of the Dougherty and
Randolph County Even
Start Family Literacy
programs; established
career pathways through
Accelerating Opportu
nity and implementation
of dual enrollment; and
established workplace
literacy classes among
local businesses and
industries in the area.
Ms. Linda Henderson
Coston is recognized
as a leader among her
peers who often seek

her advice. Her oral and
written communication
skills are exemplary as
evidenced by the numer
ous presentations she
has made to the State
Board for the Techni
cal College System of
Georgia (TCSG). She
has distinguished herself
as a leader and major
contributor to adult edu
cation throughout the
technical college system
of Georgia.

activities. Mentoring
young ladies and work
ing in her church bring
her much joy. She is the
mother of two, a son and
a daughter, and grand
mother of five. Her son
is a production manager
and has three daughters;
two in high school and
one in middle school.
Her daughter is a teacher
at Lanier Technological
College and her son-in-
law is a Colonel in the
U.S. Army. They are
the parents of two sons;
one a senior the other a
sophomore both of which
attend Georgia Southern
University.
