accomplishment in your
life and you want some
one to rejoice with you.
Enter Mr. Oneupster. He
is thinking
the whole
time how
he can
compare
his story
with what
you just
said. He
wants to
tell you
how he’s
already
done
that, done it better, and
tell you how you could
improve upon your latest
accomplishment. So
much for rejoicing with
you, let alone listening to
your story. Mr. Oneup
ster is all about making
the story about himself.
You thought you started
the conversation. Not
with Mr. Oneupster. He
was already the conversa
tion because he deigned
to be in your presence.
He was going to control
the conversation because
in his mind, there’s noth
ing more important to
talk about. For you to
start a conversation and
leave it with just your ac
complishment is leaving
the conversation incom
plete. You want better,
faster, higher, more? Mr.
Oneupster knows the
way!
“Let noth
ing be done
through self
ish ambition
or conceit,
but in lowli
ness of mind
let each
esteem others
as more im
portant than
himself. Let
each of you
look out not only for his
own interests, but also
for the interests of other.”
(Philippians 2:3-4)
When in a restaurant
some of the people who
have to have the last
word are the loudest at
their table or booths. My
son and I just snicker
when we watch this
sometimes. Their table
is usually loudest in the
area. In France they have
an expression: “Vous
avez le parole.” Trans
lated literally, that means,
“You have the word.”
Our colloquial sense of
this phrase would be,
“You have the floor.”
Some of these people
are like John Travolta.
They have the sickness of
Saturday Night Fever. If
there’s a dance floor, they
will be in the middle of
it, convinced you should
watch their every move
because they’re better
than you. In their minds,
they’re just “Stayin’
Alive!” They are having
the final word, drop the
microphone, exclamation
point!
But there is One who
will not only have the
final word, He is the
Final Word. He is not
only the Final Word, He
is the First Word. “In the
beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with
God, and the Word was
God... and the Word
became flesh and lived
among us.” (John 1:1 and
14) He was not just “a
word.” The Greek won’t
let it read that way. The
Greek makes it Word.
Final. This Word is
Jesus Christ. Speaking
of Jesus in Revelation
1:8: “’I am the Alpha
and Omega, the Begin
ning and the End,’ says
the Lord, ‘who is and
who was and who is to
come.’” And again about
Jesus, “He was clothed
with a robe dipped in
blood, and His name is
called The Word of God.”
(Revelation 19:13) And
again Jesus says in verses
13: “I am the Alpha and
the Omega, the Begin
ning and the End, the
First and the Last.” Jesus
continues in verses 16-
17: “I, Jesus, have sent
My angel to testify to
you these things in the
churches. I am the Root
and Offspring of David,
the Bright and Morning
Star.”
But some will insist
that Jesus is not the Last
Word. They will die
arguing. It will be worse
than annihilation. “And
he said to me, ‘Do not
seal up the words of the
prophecy of this book,
for the time is at hand.
He who is unjust, let him
be unjust still; he who is
filthy, let him be filthy
still; he who is righteous,
let him be righteous still;
he who is holy, let him
be holy still.” (Revela
tion 22:10-11) But for
those who simply agree
with the Truth, “And
the Spirit and the bride
say,‘Come!’ And let
him who thirsts come.
Whoever desires, let
him take of the water of
life freely.” (Revelation
22:17)

Are you getting enough protein in your diet?
(BPT) - You may have
noticed protein bars and
shakes popping up at gro
cery stores or gyms. Cov
erage of the benefits of
protein is all the rage. So
it might be surprising to
learn that almost half of
older adults are not con
suming enough protein,
thus negatively impacting
their health, according to
a recent study published
in the Journal of Nutri
tion, Health & Aging.
What role should pro
tein play in our diet?
“Protein can be thought
of as one of the building
blocks to our muscles,
bones and blood,” said
Dr. James Metcalf, a
medical director with
UnitedHealthcare Medi
care & Retirement. “Not
only does protein help
keep our body strong,
it helps promote good
balance and mobility - all
important factors to be
ing able to live indepen
dently as we age.”
Additionally, protein
helps combat common
signs of aging, like
declines in muscle mass,
strength and function,
which can put you at
greater risk of falling and
fracturing bones.
But before you grab
the nearest protein bar,
let’s discuss exactly how
much protein you should
consume each day.
How much protein do I
need?
The National Academy
of Medicine’s recom
mended dietary allow
ance for protein is 0.8
grams per kilogram of
body weight per day. For
an adult who weighs 195
pounds that’s 71 grams
per day; for someone who
weighs 170 pounds that’s
62 grams per day.
While it is helpful to
know how many grams of
protein you should aim to
consume each day, know
ing the amount of protein
in the foods we eat can be
a bit of a mystery. Below
are some sources of high-
quality protein and the
corresponding amount of
protein in each, according
to the U.S. Department
of Agriculture FoodData
Central database:
* Chicken breast (one):
54 grams of protein
* Salmon (0.5 fillet): 40
grams of protein
* Lentils (one cup
cooked): 18 grams of
protein
* Black beans (one cup
cooked): 15 grams of
protein
* Greek yogurt (one
container; plain, nonfat):
10 grams of protein
* Egg (one): 6 grams of
protein
Bottom line
If you feel you might
benefit from adding some
sources of protein into
your diet, be sure to talk
with your doctor be
fore making any drastic
changes.
Increasing your protein
consumption will not be
a silver bullet to keeping
your body healthy as you
age. Staying physically
active is also important to
help maintain your health
and live your best life.
How to Prep Financially When Changing Jobs
(StatePoint) The average
American will hold 11.7
jobs between the ages of
18 and 48, according to
The Bureau of Labor Sta
tistics. If a job change is
on your horizon, remem
ber that a new salary and
benefits package bring
new financial consider
ations.
“Changing jobs brings
with it a myriad of finan
cial decisions. Take time
to assess your financial
situation and make any
necessary adjustments
so you can start the new
job focused and ready,”
says Valerie Radford, a
vice president of Strategic
Initiatives at Prudential
Financial.
As you’re making the
switch, Radford says

everyone who sees it in a

“Jesus gives his light to
everyone by sending wit
nesses out into the world
to spread his light,” says
Clarissa, 12.
The history of personal
evangelism and the work
of missionaries demon
strate that God sends
people the good news
about Jesus Christ when
they respond to the spiri
tual light they already
possess through creation
and their own conscience
(Romans 1:18-32). Jesus
there are a few things to
keep in mind:
• Don’t Leave Money
on the Table: Keep track
of your 401(k) if you
had one at your previous
job. You can simplify
your financial picture by
bringing together any
orphan plans you’ve left
in the investing universe.
Also, make sure to take
advantage of your new
employer’s 401(k) match
feature, if offered, and
continue momentum by
increasing your contribu
tion, if possible.
• Don’t Go It Alone:
Consider using a third-
party platform to manage
finances and benefits in
one place that’s designed
to rebalance your goals
as circumstances change.
told his disciples, “You
are the light of the
world” (Matthew 5:14).
Every Christian should
be alert constantly for
opportunities to speak
the gospel message into
the lives of those God
has prepared.
“When you accept
Jesus into your heart,
he gives you light,” says
Morgan, 10. “He tries to
make it so evil can’t get
to you.”
In the heart of every
Christian, Jesus wants
to start a bonfire that
will burn brightly for all
to see. John the Baptist

• Consider Your Bonus:
If you’re receiving a sign-
on bonus or have an old
bonus saved, determine
whether this money be-
of Jesus to announce his
coming. He faithfully
pointed to Jesus Christ.
False ministers always
point to someone or
something other than
Jesus Christ.
“Jesus died on the cross
to save us from our sins.
That is how he gives
light to the world,” says
Wilson, age unknown.
Think about this: I like
to think of creation and
our conscience as God’s
spotlight that points to
Jesus. His sacrifice for
our sins is like a laser
light that penetrates
searching hearts.
Memorize this truth:
longs in a short-term, no-
risk account or whether
a longer-term approach
with exposure to financial
markets makes sense.
• Budgets are Funda
mental: If you’re making
more money, calculate if
additional funds can be
put into savings. This is
a great place to use a tool
like LINK that allows
you to see all your money
in one place, and can help
you determine where
to direct extra funds.
If you’re making less
money, you might need to
see where to make cuts.

ance: Take a breath
