The House Divided Against Itself
Special to the Ledger
By Kate Scarmalis
Our minds are sus
pended within time’s
lazy current. Time
seems infinite, but only
when we are very young.
When youth has run its
course, it is then that
time appears to have
limits.
Time evolves, as do
man’s perceptions.
Slithering forth from
under a socialist rock
comes an illusory under
standing of the meaning
of ‘truth’. Progressives
have imposed their in
cendiary perspective on
truth, one that has been
creeping up on us across
the past decades.
The example of Joe
Biden’s most recent
“gaff” is very telling.
The Democratic leading
candidate stated affirma
tively, “We choose truth
over facts.”
Many see this as an
other of Joe’s infamous
foibles, a product of a
bungling politician’s
aging mind. Or, might
it be that his statement
encapsulates the new-
age version of what truth
actually means?
In the past, it was
taught that truth came
in layers. At the fount
was objective truth,
an immutable force. It
was man’s quest was to
attempt to peel back the
layers to discover objec
tive truth, armed with
his subjective percep
tions and beliefs - as
well as his God-given
power of reason.
Times, they are
a’changin’, as they say.
Truth, in the world of
progressives has been
reduced to the twerking
sensitivities of their fol
lowers. In other words,
subjective truth trumps
objective reality.
So, Sleepy Joe’s state
ment, “We choose truth
over facts” is given a
fresh new interpretation.
The truth is reduced to
that which the Demo
crats view as true. Facts
are simply an inconve
nience in their schema
of reality.
Biden’s statement in
full was, “Everybody
knows who Donald
Trump is. Even his sup
porters know who he is.
We got to let him know
who we are. We choose
unity over division. We
choose science over
fiction. We choose truth
over facts.”
The takeaway from
this bold analysis of
Donald Trump’s charac
ter is that he is a racist,
because the Democrat’s
“truth” says he is.
With their loud hue and
cry, leftist Democrats
point towards President
Trump’s
view on
immi
gration
reform.
Rational
Americans
agree that
a nation
without
borders
cannot
call itself a
country. The conception
of a nation with open
borders is ludicrous.
However, as it is the
belief of the progres
sives that open borders
defines the direction
that immigration reform
must take, then it is so.
The objective view of
the reality of our south
ern border is that gangs,
such as MS-13, have
expanded the business of
human trafficking into
the U.S. to the extent
that it has become more
profitable to them than
the drug trade.
Fact: 76,000 aliens
with criminal convic

Fact: Agents from the
U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement
(ICE) raided seven food
processing plants in
Mississippi. Approxi
mately 680 “undocu
mented” aliens were
detained.
Truth (Progressive):
President Donald J.
Trump is a racist.
Barack Obama is the
most popular president
of our time.
Fact: Dawn Elliott, a
radio host and attorney,
made a statement to
the Louisville Courier-
Journal that Kentucky’s
candidate for attorney
general, Daniel Jay
Cameron, needs to “stop
eating the ‘coon flakes’
the White House is serv
ing.”
Cameron is a black
man, a Republican
whose campaign plat
form includes calling
out the liberal policies
and the corruption of his
Democratic opponent.
“Coon flakes”? Good
luck waiting for the
mass media to come out
in a deluge of criticism
against a liberal radio
host.
Truth (Progressive):
Donald J. Trump spurs
on white supremacists
to carry out public mass
shootings.
Fact: Last Wednesday,
President Trump vis
ited the survivors, first
responders and staff
exposed to
and/or were
victimized by

Good Relationships
Rarely does a day
pass without having to
face conflict either at
home, school, play, or
on the job. Scripture
admonishes those who
have placed their faith
in Christ as their Sav
ior to ... “Make every
effort to live in peace
with all men and to be
holy; without holiness no
one will see the Lord”
(Heb 12:14 NIV). This
admonition presupposes,
first, that the individual
seeking to live at peace
with others is holy. This
does not mean that the
person is better than
someone else, but rather,
because of having placed
their faith in Christ, they
have received God’s
righteousness and their
position before God is
one of holiness. Sec
ondly, in their practical
living experience, this
Christian is holy when
functioning without
unconfessed sin in their
lives. There is no bit
terness, anger, malice or
vengeance in their atti
tude toward any who are
a party to the conflict.
Instead, God the Holy
Spirit is able to manifest
His production in the life
of the believer. “But
the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control. Against
such things there is no
law. Those who belong
to Christ Jesus have cru
cified the sinful nature
with its passions and
desires. Since we live
by the Spirit, let us keep
in step with the Spirit”
(Gal 5:22-25 NIV). Two
of the gospels record a
confrontation faced by
Jesus. Matthew and
Luke record how the
devil tempted Jesus in
an effort to derail the
Plan of God in which
Christ would go to the
Cross, pay for the sins
of mankind and destroy
the power of Satan to
hold the human race
in bondage to sin. The
account of this event
is framed in the exact
way that believers are to
think and act in times of
testing ... “Then Jesus
was led by the Spirit into
the desert to be tempted
good work on the behalf
of the shooting victims.
As a result, she has been
getting harassed online
and in person. She has
been receiving death
threats, and needs to
be escorted in and out
of the hospital. She has
been doxed by a leftist
organization that goes
by the name of “Time
to Impeach 45”. A sick
leftist tweet listed the
telephone numbers to
call to harass Rita and
the hospital at large for
posing with the presi
dent.
Fact: These people are
sick. Really, really sick.
The truly sick minds
come from the de
crepitude of aging and
failing celebrities. Last
Wednesday, Hollywood
actress Rosanna Ar-
by the devil” (Mt 4:1
NIV)... “Jesus returned
to Galilee in the power
of the Spirit (Lk 4:14
NIV). Furthermore, the
Apostle Peter reminds
Christians that, during
the life and ministry of
Jesus Christ on earth,
He lived each moment in
rapport with the Spirit.
Thus He became the
example for Christians
to follow ... “When they
hurled their insults at
him, he did not retali
ate; when he suffered, he
made no threats. Instead,
he entrusted himself to
him who judges justly”
(1 Peter 2:23 NIV).
Then Peter says ... “To
sum up, let all be har
monious, sympathetic,
brotherly, kindhearted,
and humble in spirit; not
returning evil for evil, or
insult for insult, but giv
ing a blessing instead;
for you were called
for the very purpose
that you might inherit
a blessing” (1 Pet 3:8
NASB). To be harmoni
ous is to be like minded,
sharing in the same
goals and purposes. If
conflicts arise, seek to
reconcile differences
by compromise, recon
sidering one’s position
and accepting the other,
or agreeing to disagree
without retaliation or
bitterness ... “do not let
the sun go down on your
anger and do not give the
devil an opportunity”
(Eph 4:27 NASB). “Let
all bitterness and wrath
and anger and clamor
and slander be put away
from you, along with
all malice” (Eph 4:31
NASB). Paul wrote ...
“Live in harmony with
one another. Do not be
proud, but be willing to
associate with people of
low position. Do not be
conceited” (Rom 12:16
NIV). The Apostle Peter
urged an attitude that
was sympathetic; that
is, having regard for the
welfare of others, en
couraging and comfort
ing others as you enter
into the joys or sorrows
of others. Even our Lord
in His humanity wept at
the tomb of His friend.
His expression of sym
pathy carried a message
of encouragement for He
would then call Lazarus
out from the grave so
that all could believe that
... “I am the resurrec-
quette, regarding the
evils of white suprema
cy tweeted, “I’m sorry
I was born white and
privileged. It disgusts
me. And I feel so much
shame.”
Liberals who so closely
marched in support of
racial fellowship have
morphed into animals
of a different stripe.
Remember the words of
the estimable Dr. Martin
Luther King: “We must
learn to live together
as brothers or perish
together as fools.”
For some, fools it is.
Concerning the recent
mass shootings, Don
ald Trump came out to
stress the importance of
unity. Indubitably the
political fault lines have
become ingrained be
tween our nation’s fac
tion and the life; he who
believes in me shall live
[spiritual life] even if
he dies [physical death],
and everyone who lives
and believes in Me shall
never die
[spiritual death, separa
tion from God]. Do
you believe this” (John
