On August 6, LaToya Cooper, of the Leesburg Post Office, received a
Gold Star Award in recognition of her exceptional sales skills and a
perfect score of 100 in a recent secret shopper inspection. The award
was presented by Mr. DosSantos, Manager Post Office Operations,
who traveled from Jacksonville, Florida, for this presentation. This
was the third perfect score in a row for Leesburg Post Office.

Aug. 3. Kirkland re
ceived the award for his
exceptional service and
commitment to preserv
ing the natural world.
Kirkland currently
serves as Chehaw’s Nat
ural Resources Manager,
where he takes great
pride in caring for the
Park’s natural resources.
He has developed a com
prehensive forest stew
ardship plan for Chehaw
which includes a pre
scribed fire plan, timber
harvests, managing
native flora and fauna,
eradicating exotic inva
sive species, insects and
disease, and managing
wildlife populations on
the Park. Kirkland has
worked at Chehaw since
1986 when he started
as the Park Ranger. His
title then changed in the
90s to Ranger/Chief Nat
uralist, and then to his
current title of Natural
Resources Manager. His
myriad of responsibili
ties have included forest
management, wildlife
management, camp
ground, playgrounds,
picnic grounds, boat
dock, fish pond, security,
and operating Ticket
Booth, Gift Shop, and
Concessions.
He has also served as
organizer of the Native
American Festival, Fron

preserving the natural
world.

created in 2009 and

liams graduated from
basic military training at
Joint Base San Antonio-
Lackland, San Antonio,
Texas.
The airman completed
an intensive, eight-week
program that included
training in military
discipline and studies,
Air Force core values,
physical fitness, and
basic warfare principles
and skills.
Airmen who complete
basic training also earn
four credits toward an
associate in applied sci
ence degree through the
Community College of
the Air Force.
Pearce Williams is the
son of Alice P. Williams
of Albany, Ga., and
Christopher D. Williams
of Leesburg, Ga.
He is a 2018 gradu
ate of Lee County High
School, Leesburg, Ga.
