For some it was the first
cross country meet and
for the returning eighth
graders it was a great
opportunity for practic
ing leadership. The boys
team took off first on the
two-mile course, first
place overall went to
Sawyer McGinnis from
Crisp County Middle
School. Deerfield-Wind-
sor Middle School
earned the first place
overall team award.
Lee County ran a strong
opening race clenching
a fifth place finish out of
16 teams.

Cross County Teams
laced up their shoes
again this Saturday,
August 24, 2019. Both
the high school varsity
teams and the middle
school teams competed
in the 4th annual Furlow
Fast Feet Invitational,
hosted by Furlow Char
ter School.
The Varsity Girls
Team was the first to
line up on the starting
line. One hundred for
ty-one runners charged
off the line in pursuit
of the finish line, which
was a deceptively long,
gradual incline. The first
place runner, crossing
the line in 19:48 was
Kiley Murphy of Brook-
stone High School. Pike
County High School
earned top honors with
a first place team finish
out of 16 teams. Lee
County ran strong with
an eighth place finish.
The top five places are
the scoring positions.
Runners six and seven
are used in the event of
a tie between the point
value of two teams.
