My Jesus

Why Are You Wait
ing?
When Ananias came
to Paul, as Acts 22:16
records, he asked one
question which all
should face. Ananias
was hesitant to come
to meet Saul of Tarsus,
who was to become
the great apostle Paul,
because Paul was at the
forefront of the assault
being made against the
church. At God’s urging,
Ananias stood before
the persecutor and asked
one question. “And now
why are you waiting?”
This question should be
answered by each of us,
for we all
face the
decision
about
becoming
a Chris
tian.
Some
are
waiting
because
they have
not heard
about
the salvation in Christ.
However, this is not
the case with those
who are reading these
words. The motivation
for world evangelism is
the fact that some have
not heard of the Lord,
yet that is not the case
with you. Why are you
waiting?
Some are waiting
because they feel they
are “good enough”
spiritually.
This view
of how God
judges a man
is unknown
to God. Some
think that
God will put
all the good
we have done
on a heav
enly balance
scale and if
it outweighs all the evil
we have done, He will
save us. The Judge of
our eternal destiny has
said that salvation is not
by works of righteous
ness which we have
done (Titus 3:5). It is not
of works which we have
done (Ephesians 2:8-10).
Salvation is by grace,
and the price of sin
cannot be paid by doing
more good than evil.
“All our righteousness
is filthy rags” (Isaiah
64:4). Why are you
waiting?
Some are waiting
because they do not feel
worthy of salvation.
They are so ashamed
of past actions and
those around them
sometimes remind
them of what they have
done. What they fail to
realize is that it is God
who determines their
worth. He is the One
who decides who can be
saved. Christ died for all
and the invitation is for
“whosoever” (Revela
tion 22:17). Why are you
waiting?
Some are waiting
because they feel they
simply do not know
enough. If this is why
you are waiting, then
think of how little was
known by those who
first obeyed the gospel.
Read Acts 2 and listen
to that first gospel ser
mon which was heard
by the 3,000 who be
came Christians. They
knew that Jesus was the
Christ, that He was the
Lord and He wanted
them to repent and be
baptized. Those in Acts
16 learned enough in
just one hour to obey
the gospel. They did not
wait to commit their
lives to the Lord. Why
are you waiting?
Some are waiting for
a better time to come
for them to obey. They
intend to obey the Lord,
but not right now. Their
heart has good inten
tions. What they fail to
see is that this intention
is a decision to not obey
Him now! Satan has
blinded them and won
the battle! Why are you
waiting?
Let me ask again, Why
are you waiting?

purpose.” (Romans 8:28

Sometimes little things
can frustrate us. But no
person is defined by any
one day or one incident.
These little problems are
usually temporary and
serve only as a reminder
that we are not in charge
of anything at all.

of the armed men that
were in the host. And
the Midianites and the
Amalekites and all the
children of the east lay
along in the valley like
grasshoppers for multi
tude; and their camels
were without number,
as the sand by the sea
side for multitude. And
when Gideon was come,
behold, there was a man
that told a dream unto
his fellow, and said,
Behold, I dreamed a
dream, and, lo, a cake
of barley bread tumbled
into the host of Midian,
and came unto a tent,
and smote it that it fell,
and overturned it, that
the tent lay along. And
his fellow answered and
said, This is nothing
else save the sword of
Gideon the son of Joash,
a man of Israel: for into
his hand hath God de
livered Midian, and all
the host. And it was so,
when Gideon heard the
telling of the dream, and
the interpretation there
of, that he worshipped,
and returned into the
host of Israel, and said,
Arise; for the LORD
hath delivered into your
hand the host of Midian.

The Class of Effing
ham. It was the 40th
Anniversary of the
graduating Class of 1979,
Effingham County High
School. It became so
much more. While it was
orchestrated by the Class
of 1979, they opened
it up to the classes of
1978, 1980, and 1981 to
share the evening. “Let
brotherly love continue.”
(Hebrews 13:1)
Mark Lee called Rhon
da Helmy to inform her
it was time to prepare for
their reunion. Rhonda
was the Homecoming
Queen of the Class of
’79. She brought another
dimension to her title
of Homecoming Queen
with this event. So much
organization went into
this. Mark knew who
to call. I’m sure he was
the catalyst but she was a
catalyst/organizer. In the
flanks was David Per
kins. He and Mark did a
lot of the public speak
ing, but it seemed to me
that the Homecoming
Queen was ultimately in
charge of the Homecom
ing. I thanked her for the
hard work. She “hugged
my neck,” told me it was
good to see me again,
and I left her to the helm.
My wife asked me who
she was to me. “She was
just my friend.” She was
just everybody’s friend.
Obviously, she hasn’t
changed.
Our venue was owned
by a lady in my grad
uating class of 1980,
