Proposed Speed Limit Changes To Receive Further Review
During their meet
ing July 13th, the Lee
County commissioners
discussed proposed
speed limit changes on
certain roads. The coun
ty received a letter from
the Georgia Depart
ment of Transportation
stating that DOT is in
the process of updating
the existing speed limits
on routes in the coun
ty to bring them into
compliance with present
regulations.
It was pointed out
that the commissioners
have been contacted by
individuals concerned
about the proposed speed
limit changes for certain
roads. Commissioner
George Walls said that
people are concerned
about speeders in the
subdivisions and that
speed limits should
be lowered not raised.
Chairman Mathis said
that it is not the intent
of the commissioners to
increase any speed limit.
Each commissioner
will compare the cur
rent speed limit to the
proposed speed limit of
the roads in their district
that are on the DOT’s
list. The commissioners
will discuss the proposed
changes before approv
ing the ordinance.

Following an in-depth

the representatives from
Motorola Solutions were
asked to attend the next

information concerning
the questions raised by
the commissioners.
The commissioners

The commissioners
awarded the bid for the
T. Page Tharp Govern

project to Midwest

only responsive bidder,
for $575,608.00. Mid
west Maintenance Inc.
is the same company

complimented the work
that was done on the
courthouse.
All work complet

standards, under the
direction of Bill Walter,

Lee County’s Sheriff
Office will receive five
new vehicles following
approval by the county
commissioners during
their meeting last week.
The purchase of the five
vehicles will be made
using SPLOST funds.
The county commis
sion approve leasing 105
Knollwood Drive to ad
jacent land owner Scott
Reid. The property was
acquired by the Coun
ty through the Flood
Mitigation Assistance
Program.
Lee County has partic
ipated in the Flood Mit
igation Program follow
ing the flooding events
of the 1990s, acquiring
90 properties which
are maintained as open
space. Citizens who own
adjoining properties
have the opportunity to
lease those lots for $1.00
per five year agreement,
which is automatically
renewed annually. If an
eligible lot is leased, the
lessee is responsible for
the maintenance and
insurance of the lot.
The county com
missioners approved
purchasing eight NCIC/
GCIC MDIS licenses
for Sheriff’s Office
vehicles. Licenses are
required for deputies to
run GCIC through their
MDIS (Mobile Data
Information System) on
their computers in their
vehicles. It was point
ed out that by having
these licenses and the
ability to access the
system in patrol vehicles
will allow deputies to
immediately obtain vital
information while on the
scene of a traffic stop
or call without having
to call into dispatch to
receive the information.
The officers utilizing the
licenses and system will
be GCIC certified and
certified Security and
Integrity. The licenses
are through the CAD
system that falls under
the responsibility of
E-911.
The total cost for the
purchase of the eight
licenses is $15,084.00,
to come from the 2021-
2022 E-911 departmen
tal budget. The cost for
the licenses themselves
are $12,700.00 and the
24/7 support is an addi
tional annual charge of
$2,384.00. The annual
support charge will con
tinue to come out of the
E-911 budget.

al Commission board.
She was appointed to

certifying the abandon
ment of White Pond
Road, north from Hattie

A notice was published
for two weeks in the Lee
County Ledger adver
tising the determination
of the board that the de
scribed portion of White
Pond Road had ceased to
be used by the public to
the extent that no sub
stantial public purpose
is served by the road and
the removal of said road
from the county road
system is otherwise in
the best public interest.
At the last commission
meeting, a public hearing
was held concerning the
