Community Parks Approved By Commissioners
Responding to re
quests from citizens,
the commissioners
approved “pocket parks”
for Callaway Lakes and
Springdale during their
meeting September 25th.
The third park area was
tabled due to proposed
modifications that will
be made. Kathleen
Fiorito, who resides
in the Callaway Lakes
Subdivision, said “I was
disappointed that I forgot
the rule about having to
sign in first, in order to
be allowed to speak at
the meeting. I had hoped
to make a case for an
additional park bench as
only one exists and for
an additional piece of
new play equipment, in
addition to a new swing
set. However, getting
these maintenance fixes
and safety upgrades are
wonderful for a long
neglected park.”
A large delegation of
citizens from north Lee
County were at the coun
ty commission meeting
September 26th to voice
their opposition to the
potential of closing roads
in their part of the coun
ty. Earlier, an individual
had made contact at the
county office to initiate
the closure of Gray Moss
Road. Commissioner
Dennis Roland explained
that he was told that
potential closure includ
ed Gray Moss, Chokee
Road, Dan Green Road
and Bates Road but Ro
land stressed that closure
of those roads were not
on the agenda. Chairman
Billy Mathis stated that
the only time that roads
are closed are when
