Lee County High Receives High Marks On Graduation Rate

The Georgia De
partment of Education
released the four-year
graduation rates yes
terday and Lee County
High School (LCHS)
successfully graduated
91.8% of the Class of
2023 last school year.
Lee County School
System (LCSS) out
performed the state of
Georgia by 7.4 points.
458 seniors received
LCSS diplomas.
Dr. Karen Hancock,
LCHS Principal, com
mended the Class of
2023. “Congratulations
to the Class of 2023
for achieving a four-
year graduation rate
of 91.8%! This is a
remarkable accomplish
ment and highlights
the exceptional efforts
put forth by both the
students and the educa
tors in Lee County. It’s a
testament to their com
mitment to education
and the support system
in place.”
Kelli Duke, Secondary
Director of Teaching
and Learning, applauded
everyone’s efforts by
saying, “The numbers
reflect the hard work
put in by our students,
teachers, administra
tors, and community. I
am very proud of this
collective effort”. Board
of Education Chair,
Claire Lang, expressed
her gratitude by saying,
“This is great news.
The graduation rate is
a direct result of the
entire System’s focus on
teaching and learning.
I am incredibly thank
ful for the dedication
and commitment of our
students, administration,
faculty, families, and
community.
LCSS continuously
strives to improve the
graduation rate while
making sure that our
students are prepared
to successfully navigate
their future opportuni
ties”.
Four-year graduation
rates measure the per
centage of students who
graduate high school
with a diploma in four
years. “This graduation
rate is reflective of the
long standing commit
ment that the Lee Coun
ty School System has
for academic excellence
for all students”, stated
Dr. Kathleen Truitt,
LCSS’ Superintendent.
The Class of 2023 can
take great pride in this
achievement!

During a Special
Called Joint Meeting of
the Lee County Board
of Commissioners, the
City of Leesburg, and
the City of Smithville
on Tuesday, October
10, the elected official
discussed and reached
an Intergovernmental
Agreement and resolu
tion for SPLOST VIII
that will be placed on
the ballot for voters to
decide on extending the
Special Purpose Sales
Tax that will benefit the
citizens in the unin
corporated area of Lee
County, Leesburg and
Smithville.
Under the current
SPLOST VII, the pro
ceeds from the collec
tion of the sales tax was
based on the percentage
of the population. Under
that agreement, Lees
burg with a population
of 2,896 receives 10.23%
of the funding while
Smithville with a pop
ulation of 575 receives
2.03%. Lee County’s
share is 87.74% with a
population of 18,298 in
the unincorporated area
of the county.
Under the Intergovern
mental Agreement for
the proposed SPLOST
VIII, Leesburg will re
ceive 10.49%, Smithville
will continue to receive
2.03% and Lee County’s
share will be reduced to
87.48%.
