Sabot Supports Literacy
By Donating Payments
Mike Sabot has served
on the Lee County
Board of Elections for
nine years and two
months. Lee County
citizens serving on
some county boards are
compensated for their
service.
Each month when
Mr. Sabot receives a

When asked why he
donates the proceeds of
the checks to the library,
he stressed the need for

that all children needs

Literacy is the ability
to read, write, speak and
listen in a way that lets
people communicate
effectively.

Special to the Ledger
Taxpayers should now
be receiving their 2023
property tax bills show
ing an HTRG credit for
those who have a home
stead exemption.
The HTRG credit
amount is showing in
correctly due to an error
with the printing compa
ny. The HTRG amount
should read $529.31 in
lieu of $543.71.
This DOES NOT
affect the calculation of
your bill. The bill totals
are correct and reflect a
credit of $529.31.
The HTRG amount is
determined by calculat
ing 18,000 by the Coun
ty and School millage
rates.
County millage rate:
12.406 x 18,000 =
223.31
School millage rate:
17.000 x 18,000 =
306.00
Total HTRG credit -
$529.31
This does not apply to
School Bond
The printing compa
ny will be mailing out
corrected bills for your
records.
Tax bills reflecting the
correct HTRG credit
may also be printed
from the website at

Halloween - Fun Time For All
As children are finalizing their costumes
for trick or treating, adults throughout Lee
County have been busy preparing their
yards to highlight this fun time for all. This
Halloween creation is the handy work of
Susan Howell at her home on Highway 195
in Leesburg.

Lee County is blessed
with many water resourc
es. They include swamps,
rivers, creek, springs,
lakes and even small
ponds. These unique
wetland ecosystems
provide many different
and valuable benefits to
our environment, public
health, and the economy.
Our single most im
portant water resource is
our freshwater aquifers.
We are fortunate to have
these pure sources of
water for use, and need
to be mindful of con
servation and sharing,
especially in drought
years. We also need to
be mindful of pollution
caused by run-off, illicit
discharges, or illegal
dumping of solid waste.
All citizens need to
be aware of pollution
from such things as oil
and gas, sewage spills,
construction project
soil run-off, illegal tire
dumps and other poten
tial pollutants to keep our
waters clean and healthy
for all to use.

Enforcement (via storm
water and general water
management) is very
aware of the important
role waterways play in
our environment: the
economy, culture, and
enjoyment of our region
are all linked to these
water resources. They
are committed to testing
and inspection not just
our creeks and river,
but also the important
wetlands that provide us
with so much value in
Lee County.
Annual waterway
cleanups are regularly
scheduled to help keep
our water resources clean
and safe to use. Work on
restoring flows is also
critical, as are pollution
enforcement actions
when necessary. These
waterways and wetlands
are arguably among our
most important commu
nity assets, right along
side the citizens and the
soil.
