The Excursion to Macon.
The excursion to the Methodist
Orphans Home at Macon over the
G. S. & F. Thursday was largely
attended. Ten per cent of the sale
ot tickets, besides a great many
contributions by the visitors was
received by the Home as a result
of the excursion. If there is any
thing in this old world of ours
that will appeal to the hearts and
pocketbooks of men when every
thing else imaginable fails—-it is
the poor orphan boy or girl. These
excursions, to this Home annually
cannot but be productive of good,
as it is then that the happy and
seemingly contented men, women
and children with parents are
brought in touch with the unfor-
unate. their circumstances, etc.,
and of course their hearts are there
by made tender. The writer knows
ot one particularly that was very
much touched by a visit to this
place last year and says that it is
worth a great deal to anyone to
make a visit there.
An Easy Made Ten Dollars
On Wednesday afternoon Mr. C.
I. Bennett received a letter from
Marshal C. j . Goodwin of Mar-
shallvilie, offering a reward of $io
for a negro named Ebbie Woliork,
who had skipped out from his
bondsman. The letter stated, that
the negro would probably stop in
Vienna to secure work on the new
railroad.
Mr. Bennett knew the negro,
who happened to be in his shop
when the letter was received, and
after reading the letter Mr. Bennett
carried the negro to jail, where he
was held until Thursday when an
officer came after him.
Sheriff Sheppard also received a
similar letter and was reading it
when Mr. Bennett passed by on his
way to jail, with the prisoner..
