W. S. Chhistian, Stenographer of the
City court, has traded for Dr: Youmans’
new residence on the East side of Fifth
Street, and his father and mother, of
Lumpkin, will move over and occupy
the home just as soon as it is completed.
The News extends to them a hearty
welcome as citizens of our town.
Contractor Whiddcn has about com
pleted his contract with the A. A B.,
and will leave as soon as his things can
be leaded for Mississippi, where he has
a large contract of grading to do for a
new road. Three passenger coaches
have been standing at the depot for
several days with which to transport
his family and large number of hands.

advertising more extensively this fall

Preparations for the beginning of
operations at the oil mill are going
stoadily forward, and it is fhe Intention
of the company to be ready for work
by the first of January. Fart of the
essential machinery has not arrived.' -
Not a great expenditure of money to
put the sidewalks here iii ''good shape,
and to do it is a duty the officials who
have charge of such matters owe to
the people. The News is not criticising
these officials—Just suggesting.
The G. S. A F railroad will give a re
duced rate of one and one-third fare
round trip beginning Dec; 23rd, to 25th
and 30th and 3!at,good until Jan 1st,
account holidays. They will nUo give
a Student’s rate of same .price from 16
to 22nd, good until Jan. 8th, provided
they secure a certificate from the priic
cipals of the different schools.
One of the > most progressive and
sensible moves the city ;council has
ever made was the contracting with
the Vienna Cotton Oil Company for
• system of electric lights, for the
town to displace the gasoline lamps
now in use. The Cotton Oil Company
are erecting an electric plant for their
private use, and while at it they will
also put in a system for the town at a
reasonable rental. The city council
deserves much credit for their progres
sive spirit.
