It is now very generally conceded
that Mr. Plant owns a controlling

The f. uce question has been
tnling the people of this county
years.
A hedge company, from far
Arkansas, lias now swooped- down
upon this sn lion, and is capturing it
almost bodily, 'i lie lied e is con
strucled (.in of the osage range by a
process greatly improved and facilita
ted by several valuable patents. It
requires ihrec years' time to grow a
first-class hedge that is proof against
everything except a mole or an ele
phant. The hedge men exhibit cn
chaining pictures of their living fence,
making a farm look like a cullivated
Eden. Of course, the people tumble
to the racket. They can't hel|

Contracts have been made to enclose
several of the large private parks
adjoining 'I liomasville, besides many
farms and smaller places. The city
lias also contracted to have Laurel
Hill cemetery enclosed with this
hedge. It it comes up to representa
ttons it will effectually solve the fence
problem, for it is said to be immortal
and the judgment day conflagration
expected to burn up these selfsame
hedges.

Crack companies are organized in a
majority of counties, composed, main
ly, of young men ; though it is not
uncommon to see in the ranks those
who wore the grey from 61 to 65.
Many of the companies, however date
away back.
The Chatham Artillery company of
Savannah is the oldest company in
the State. It was organized in 1776.
The Liberty Independent Troop is
the next oldest, the date of its organi

Richmond Hussars, which was organ
