Survivors of the War.
Commissioner Raum, of the Pen
sion Bureau, has prepared, with the
aid of the War Department records,
an interesting statement of the casual
ties of the civil war and of other facts
of special value in connection with
pension legislation, of which the fol
lowing is a condensation :
Number of soldiers enlisted during
the war for the Union, including rc-
enlistments, 2,213,305.
Nuraberkilled in battle and by oth
er casualties and who died of disease
prior to July 1,1865, 364,110.
Estimated number of deaths of sol
diers discharged duriug the war prior
