The Poor Horse.
'King Growler” dropped into the
itorial rooms of the T.-U., Jackson
ville, the other night and tackled the
boarding house editor on some local
abuses. We extract the following:
“You fellers are all the time writing
about the tariff, ana I suppose you
want the duty on rum removed, but
why don’t you say something about
local affairs, something about things
> that are right under your great big
noses? Now he;-c is one particular
thing I want to give a great big growl
about, this tight cbeckrein business.
Every day I see splendid horses that
know a blame sight more than the
men driving of them, prancing along
the streets suffering pain all the time.
You have got a S. P. C. A. society,
but what is it a-doing ? That is what
I want to know, and what you ought
to find out. The way some of these
horses is checked up you’d think the
drivers was trying to drive ’em right
onto the sky. This unmerciful tight
reining ought to be stopped. It’s a
doggoned pity to see a noble animal
going alacg the street with an over
head checkrcin drawn up so tight
that he can’t sen the ground and has
sd to guess at it. You can see how he
suffers by the way he tosses his head
from side to side to try and relieve
the fearful tension of the neck. Now
you know what I’d do if I was a hoss
and was reined up that way? I’d
wait until I got outside the stable
[• and then I'd hump myself and kick
that buggy into firewood, and if I
landed the driver one hefty one
. alongside the jaw the coroner’s jury
0U"ht to call it ‘a merciful dispense
tion of Providence.’ Now you go for
’em, will you?”
The Times Union man cautiously
remarked that he would look into it,
p “Oh yes, you’ll look into it, will
you ? I’ll bet 810 you’d rather look
into a mint julep any time.”

Everybody lias heard of a “horse laugh,"
jut wlio baa ever 6cen an equine rifted with
2hc power of rpoccli ? Such nn animal would
be pronounced a miracle; but so would tho
telegraph and tho telephone a hundred years
ago. Why, even very recently a euro for con
sumption, which is universally acknowledged
to be scrofula affecting tho lungs, would bare
been looked upon ns miraculous, but now poo-
G lo are beginning to realize that the disease
i not Incurable. I)r. Pierce’s Golden Medical
Discovery will euro it, if taken in time and
given a fair trial. This world-renowned rem
edy will not make now lungs, but it will re
store diseased ones to a healthy state when
other means have failed. Thousands grate
fully testify to this. It is the most potent
tonic, or strength restorer, alterative,
blood-cleanser and nutritive, or flcsh-bulldi
known to medical science. For Weak Lungs,
Spitting of Blood, Brouchitis, Asthma, Ca
tarrh in tho Head, and all Lingering Coughs,
it is an uncqualcd remedy. In derangements
of the stomach, liver and bowels, os Indiges
tion, or Dyspepsia, Biliousness, or "Liver
Complaint, Chronic Diarrhea, and kindred
ailments, it is a sovereign remedy.
“Golden Medical Dis

of disease for which it Is recommended, or
