Call meeting of the Board of Trus
tees of Clay street school.
Chairman II. .T. Mitchell railed the
meeting to order.
After stating the object of the call,
which was to correct certain rumor
affecting the reputations of Randal J.
Mitchell, J. C. Few and Clias. Rice,
as well as that of the whole hoard, set
afloat by Rev. II. R. Downs and other
preachers,'the following resolution was
offered by Jackson Hamilton.
llexoU'ed. That tlie hoard of trustees
of tlie Clay street colored school ten
der R. J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and
Charles Rice their hearty thanks for
the purchase of our school lot, the fi
nancial aid which they have given in
the erection of tlie school building,
and the generous contributions which
they have made from time to time for
the school house, also for the fairness
and honest intention shown on their
part, in making to us a deed of trust
for the patrons of this school.
Jlctolveil, That the failure to have
said deed of trust recorded, was notan
intention on their part to defraud the
public and patrons of this school, but
a delay on the part of the hoard of
trustees, because they did not have
sufficient money to spare from the ex
pense of erecting the school building.
The board of trustees have held the
deed ever since March 27, 1880 ; and
he it further
Remlml, That we denounce as false
and groundless the charges which have
been made against R. J. Mitchell, J.
C. Few and Charles Rice, and we en

lot.
The following was ottered by Mr.
Aaron Jones:
AVhcrcns, Principal Charles Rice
our building and soliciting agent, has
tendered to the patrons of the Clay
street school such efficient services in
securing funds and pushing forward
the business of this board of trustees,
and sacrificed so much time and mon
ey to make a success of the work.
Whereas, AA'c have unshaken con
fidence in his honesty and integrity

Rc.mh'cil, That we tender to him,
for tlie patrons of the Clay street
chool and in behalf of this board of
trustees, our highest gratitude and
thanks for the honest aud able man
ner in which he has conducted the
business of the school entrusted to
him.
