The Quitman Press says :

Judge Vann, of Florida, has kind
ly presented, through Mrs. J. L. Lin
ton, to the museum department of the
library, several rare curiosities found
while working some phosphate beds
on Pease creek, in Florida. They
consist of what is, evidently, a masto
don’s or some huge animal’s tooth,
several shark’s teeth, serpent’s fang,
alligator teeth, aud other petrified
specimens.

Our Cairo contemporary,lie: South

The Sub-treasury scheme is not re

not in accord with democratic princi

end, the bill would benefit tlie farmer,

We are requested to announce that
a convention of northern horn citizens
will meet in the court house oil Sat
urday morning next, the 7th inst., at
II o’clock, for the purpose of electing
delegates to attend the meeting of
northern born citizens, soon to convene
in Douglasville in this state, ft is
hoped that every northern born citi

A Sad Death.
Dr. J. A. Anders, of Iamonec, Fla.,
arrived here Friday afternoon with
the remains of bis son, Mr. O. A. An
ders, who recently died at Lexington,
Ky, The young man’s death was in
deed a sad one. He left here less than
a month ago for Lexington, to enter
college, full of promise and ambition.
He had been there only a short time
when he was taken with the measles,
resulting in his death. lie was ‘23
years of age. Ilis father left with the
remains for Iamonec Friday night,
and the burial took place yesterday in
the family burying ground. The
grief sricken family will have the
heart felt sympathies of all in their
sad bereavement.
An Example for His Race.
William lv Bailey, an industrious,
nml consequently successful farmer,
was in town yesterday. He owns and
works a farm near Patten, and is
making a good living lie has fifteen
acres in cotton, which is now blooming.
Bailey brought the first bale in last
vear, and says white farmers will
hive to hustle if they heat him this
year. It i< a pleasure togpotc the
thrift, progress and prosperity of col
ored farmers.
There is line noticeable thing about
our industrious colored population,
whether mechanics, laborers or far
mer.-: they don’t bother themselves
about the race problem. They, and
their white neighbors, are solving the
problem every day.
It would lie a revelation to the Can-
fields, Chandlers, et al., if they could
drop in on one of these industrious col
ored citizens in Georgia. And wc have
plenty of them. They are prosperous
and happy, and fully protected in all
their legal rights, in this democratic
State of Georgia.
Messrs J. I*. Hancock and .1. K.
Bibb are running Mr. A. T. McIn
tyre, Jr’s.. Linton place. Mr. Han
cock in-ought to town yesterday, a
stalk of cotton two feet high, aud
covered with blooms. The young
men are making a big success of the
farm ; and we only regret that more
of our young men are not engaged in
agriculture.
