We will publish to-morrow, nil in

rant, ot the Signal Service Bureau, of
the weather for the past year. It will
be worth preserving.
Occasionally as one passes along
Jackson street odors of strange degree
assail the olfactory organs. It is very
necessary to keep the city in tlior
otighly good sanitary condition.
Walter Peeples, of the Savannah
Grocery Company, was in the city
yesterday. Whether it lie that his

it is certainly true that Walter is de
veloping into one of the heat men on

Ralph went out on a slight error,
leaving young Fuller the victor.
Rev. J. H. Herbcner visited the

practical talk. Mrs. Gordon not only
looks after the temporal and educa
tional welfare of her pupils, but she
also loses no opportunity of looking
after their spiritual welfare. The re
marks of Mr. Ilerbener were listened
to throughout with great interest by
the teachers and pupils of the institu

Quarterly Conference.
Dr. J. W. Hiuton, Presiding Elder,
will hold the Second Quarterly Con
ference for the Thoinasville station, on
Saturday night, 7th inst., 8 p. in., at
the Pastor’s study. The members of
the conference will please arrange to

Pastor,
The LeConte Pear in Texas.
The Longview Record, Gregg Co.,
Texas, publishes a flattering notice of
the thirteen acre LeConte pear orch
ard belonging to Dr. J. A. Thornton,
located near Longview.
“A freeze the last da)’ of March
ruined the prospect of a crop this sea
son, " said Dr. Thornton, who drop
ped into theTi.M i:s-Ex nmimisr. nliice
yesterday, "and but tor that I should
be in Texas, preparing to handle and
sell my fruit. I bad an otter, before
the freeze, of *1.50 per bushel for my
cutire crop.” "The freeze,” continued
the doctor, "was very severe in Gregg
county. Trees two feet through were
killed, though not a single one of my
pear trees were killed,”
This is but another demonstration
of the hardy character of the LeConte.
It can stand more than any known
fruit tree, and survive.
The First Cotton Bloom.
New Orleans, June 5.—The Picay
une’s Greenville, Miss., special says the
first cotton bloom was received yester
day at the Times office, from George
C. Branan, of Lake Fishington place.
This is the earliest bloom received
hero in twenty years. The crops
throughout the country are doing
splendidly.”
Thomas county can discount this ;
the Times Kxteki'kisi-: had blooms
from two or three cotton plantations a
week ago.
The A. & W. F.^People Still Re
fuse to Talk.
“You can just say” said an offical
of the Augusta aud '.Vest Florida road
to a reporter yesterday, "that we are
still conducting some very important
negotiations with every prospect of
success. If everything pans out as we
anticipate, why in a very short while
one will be enabled to breakfast in
Augusta and take tea on the gulf
coast.”—Chronicle.
