The freight conductors of the

trains left Chicago.
The Mississippi authorities let John
Sullivan off with a fine. He should
have been sent to prison.
A good many congressmen’s fences
need looking after. Some ol them are
down along the whole line.
Another revolution is threatened
among the border states in Mexico.
Uncle Sam will have to take charge of
seme of those states, yet. in order to
ketp things quiet.
Memphis, Tenn., witnessed a quad
ruple hanging, on Tuesday. Three
negroes and a white man were hanged
within a few minutes of each other,
the negroes going first, in a bunch,
and the white man followed.
An exchange says:
“The ladies of Savannah are form
ing dumbbell clubs. They propose
to develop their muscles.”
Now if one could secure a sure
enough dumb belle, she would prove
a prize, indeed.
Brunswick got in her first denial of
yellow fever, yesterday. A telegrem
from Louisville, Ky., to the New York
Times said one Richard Glasgow had
died of yellow fever in Brunswick.
The city authorities, both civil and
health, denounce the report as abso
lutely false.
Tis said that Harrison and Blaine
do not think alike, about a good
many public question. Well, hardly.
Blaine thinks like a statesman Harri
son like a cross roads politician. O,
no, they evidently do not think alike,
Harrison couldn’t think like Blaine,
if he tried.
Bids for the lease of the state road,
will be opened to-day. Great interest
s felt throughout the state in the mat
ter. It will be remembered that the
lease act fixed the minimum price, at
£35,000 per annum. The present
ease expires on the 27th of Decern-
rer, when the new lessees (if the road
s released) will take charge.
Private Dalzell threatens to bring
about another war, unless every camp
’ollowcr, substitute and dead beat, who
was within one hundred miles of a con
federate during the late war, be
promptly turned into the public treas
ury to help himself, Well, Tanner
and Baum have been shoveling it out
to them pretty fast. Dalzell’s blood is
The attention el every democrat in
the county in called to the notice ol
Col. Wright, Cli'iti Deni. Ex. Co.,
Thomas Co., calling a mass meeting
of :ne party at 11 a. m., on Saturday,
the 12th d.ty <.f July. Delegates to
the gubernatorial and senatorial con
ventions are to be chosen, also the
mode and time of nominating two
members 11 the legislature. In ad
dition to these and other duties which
may devolved tin '.lie meeting, a new
executive committee for the county is
to be chosen. This is the first political
meeting of the year and it should call
out the representative men from
every portion of the county ; and it
should call the solid rank and file of
the party. I.e'. ns si rt in with a solid,
united front, ar.il. as in the past, the
men who should, will control I homas
county. I here aie no divisions here,
so far as we know, and there should
be none. And we do not believe there
will be any dissensions in the demo
cratic parly. We cannot afi.-rd it
It is the one party—ol all parties—to
which is anchored the hopes of our
people. No third party can ever
alienate the southern peopla from the
democratic party. Like a cloud by
day, and a pillar ol fire by night, it led
the southern people out of a political
bondage, worse titan the bondage of
Israel in Egypt. The waters were
divided for us; wc saw our taskmasters
overwhelmed, and now wc are in the
promised land; but the party is as
dear to southern hearts as it was when
Ben Hili bid defiance to federal bayo
nets and defended the grand old slate
of Georgia against further plunder and
degradation. Come out, democrats
of Thomas, and let's start the cam
paign on the right line—and then
keep it right.
Col. Hardeman Accepts.
Col. Hardeman has accepted the
proposition of Col. Norther, to stu up
t'tc state in joint discussion. In his
letter Col. Hardeman wants to know
where Col. Northcn stands on the sub-
treasury plan. It will be remembered
that the alliance organ charged North-
en, for weeks, with not being in favor
of this and other alliance measures.
However, when Col. Livingston aban
doned the race for governor, the
the official organ ol the order announc
ed, in endorsing Col. Northcn, that he,
(Norlhen) was in full accord with the
alliance. Now Col. Northcn will have
an opportunity of sayihg whether lie
indorses Livingston's wild sub-treasury
plan or not. Col. Northcn will find
the sub-treasury plan a mighty poor
platform to stand upon.
Congressional.
The democratic executive commit
tee, 2nd congressional district.’ has
called a convention to rr.cet in Albany,
at 12 o'clock, the 31st cay ot July, to
nominate a candidate for congress
from this district. If any opposition
is developed to Turner, it will have to
show pretty soon. There has been
some whispcring^abcut some one op
posing Turner on the sub-treasury
plan. The man who runs on that
plan for a platlorm will get left, world
without end. Thomas county will
send a solid Turner delegation to Al
bany, on the 21st of Inly.

superior court, clerks, aud sheriff ■-
convention, which meets here July

pected front over the state.

Dictator Reed, blast his picture,
as fixed the 2nd ol July as the day
pon a vote will be forced on the fed-
ral election law. Blount and Mc-
