A dispatch Ironi Camilla says that
Mitchell county will support Hawes
fot Congress. It is more likely that i'
will support Turner.
V e learn that Hon. Henry G. 'Tur
ner is ?t home. He will probably
spend some lime in the district bclore
returning to Washington.
The Atchison Globe puts truth in a
nut shell when it says: The congress
of the United State is composed of
two branches—the senate and Reed,”
Messrs. AValson and Towers, o! the
Tulaski, have leased the De Solo for a
terra of fifteen years. They wi" re
open on the 3rd of November and run
it the year round.
Georgia furnishes two ol the four
greatest Democrats in the House of
Representatives. The Second Con
gressional District has the honor of
lurnishing one ol them, and the Third
the other. Their names are Cri-p
and Turner.—Valdosta Times.
The following *‘notis" is posted on
a feuce in Morris county. “It any
man’s or woman’s cows or oxen gits in
these here oats, his or her te ; l will be
cut off, as the case may be. I am a
Christian man and pay my taxes, but
d m a man who lets his critters
loose, say I."
Here is what they think ol Turner
in Ferrien county. The Adel News
says:
Our Capt. Turner has made another
telling speech in Congress. He is one
of the grandest statesmen in Georgia.
The people of the second will return
him.
Ilerricn county is solid for Turner.
The Brunswick Times says: “Wild
and tumultuous cheers,” says a Wash
ington aorrespondent, “frequently in
terrupted Congressman Turner in his
speech against the force bill last Mon
day.’’ Mr. Turner is the right man
in the right place and the Second dis
trict will, in all probability, return him
to Congress.
Dispatches from Washington say
that the republicans are looking hope
fully to the alliance movement in the
south to break up the democratic
party. Then they would have the
satisfaction of seeing the white ele
ment in the south where Mrs. Can-
field wanted to see them—with “black
heels on their necks.’’
Gov. Nichols, of Louisiana, sends in
a ringing v:to on the lottery bill pass
ed by the legislature. Shame, shame,
on the state that its law makers should
pass such a bil’. Gov. Nichols shows
both nerve and patriotism in thus try
ing to shield his state from the infamy
of tl’.c measure.

McCune, the author ol the sub-
treasury plan, is a radical, if reports
lie true, and if he can use it to dis
rupt the Democratic party, his main
object will have been accomplished.—
Cuthbert Liberal Enterprise.
Whatever may be McCur.c’s politics
or object, one thing is certain : the
democratic patty will not submit to
making the endorsement of the sub-
treasury plan a prerequisite in the
selection of candidates.
The baleful shadows of the force
bill jast passsd by congress are already
being seen. Federal bayonets will
again surround the polls, and republi
cans will be appointed to count the
votes. The days ol carpet baggers
and scalawags arc to be inaugurated
again. The democrats of the South
of Georgia, of this section, cannot
affotd to divide in the presence of
then dangets. Together let us firmly

Proscription of the Alliance.
The Chronicle is with the farnuis
in tluir fi.ht for relict from discrimi
nations and injustice at the hands of
the government and those who repre
sent monopolies, trusts and combines,
but it condemns the Alliance br war
ring against true and tried Democrats
who cannot constitutionally and consci
entiously support their impracticable
and nonsensical sub treasury scheme.

All democrats who fought for the
redempt on of their states from Radi
cal oppression and misrule, and who
have been faithful to the cardinal
principles of their party, should never
be disqual.fied from the privileges and
rights that belong in common to
Democrats.
I hr Alliance seeks to put Demo
crats under the ban tor not supporting
their measures, and this proscription
is foreign to the practices and princi
ples of the Democratic party, upon
the integrity and supremacy of which
m the !?outh and nation depend the
rights and liberties of the people, the
autonomy of our staie governments
and the perpetuity of our Federal
Union.—Augusta Chronicle.
Theory anti Condition.
Cleveland never uttered a better
thing than when he said that "it is
condition and not a them/ that con
fronts us.’’ Theories belong to the
philosophers— conditions to every day
life, Theory is the ideal world about
us that may be neglected, sometimes
with advantage. Conditions arc so
interwoven with our happiness and our
means of subsistence ’hat we must at
tend to them whether we w.ll to do so
or not. The condition that .confronts
the south is how to keep intact the
supremacy of the Caucasian race.
United democracy is our only salva
tion. We cannot afford to divide on
any issue. I he people of our county
must keep together. We cannot af
ford to turn the ballot box over to ir
responsible ignoramuses to be pur
chased as so many sheep as a balance
of power. This is what is sure to fol
low if untried theories are forced as an

A Thrilling Scene.
Col. Charles II. Oliustcud, of Sa-
vnuunh, who was ouc of the officers
of the late cucnnipiucnt at Augusta,
thus writes to a friend, touching a
thrilling incident of tiic encampment:
“I see some of the papers speak
rntlicr regretfully of the tarnishing of
bright uniforms in the greut storm to
which the men were exposed on the
day of the Governor’s review. Ttjwas
a tiling to be regretted, but on the
other hand the scene was wonderful
in the thrilling enthusiasm that
seemed to flnsli from evei y heart,
for ouc would not have missed it for
any consideration. I don’t know
that such tin instance of tlic personal
magnetism of a great leader presented
itself more forcibly to my mind
For myself, as I rode after our great
governor and saw him bare his head
to tlic tempest with tlic thunder crash
ing above and the lightning gleaming
from a thousand bayonets and sabers
in the bauds of as many exultant
men, the flower of Georgia, I felt as a
matt feels going into battle, nnd un
derstood as never before the power
that Gordon possesses to lead bis men
anywhere.”
No Melican Man Wanted.
From the dispatch below it will be
seen that the “pig tails” are getting
their backs up :
New York, July 7.—The World
publishes an interview with Minister
Tsui, the Chinese minister to Washing'
ton, who arrived in this city yesterday
on the steamer La Bretagne, from
France. Minister Tsui said:
“Unless the United States govern
ment repeals the law which now ex
cludes my countrymen from this
country, we shall treat Americans to a
dose of their own medicine. I mean
that we shall cxcluJe citizens of the
United States from the Chinese Em
pire.”
On the Right Line.
The News and Advertiser, Albany,
says:
An Alliancetnan from Mitchell tells
the New sand Advertiser that when the
Mitchell county alliance met last Wed
nesday, a speaker arose and tried to
address the meeting cn political issues,
but was summarily called to order,
and told that politics could not be dis
cussed witnin the walls of the Mitchell
County Alliance. Hurrah lor Mitchell
alliance!
Many county alliances, within the
past few days, have decided not to
make any nominations.
