“Don’t say a word,” exclaims Blink-

man entered his office, says America.
‘‘Don’t speak ; don’t utter a sylable.

Editor Wight, of the Southwest
Georgian is out in an able and ringing
editorial, endorsing Henry G. Turner,
for congress. Editor Wight has a

Georgia is the “sooner” state of the
Union. She was the first on hand
with her' watermelons, and now she
has marketed the first bale of cotton
of the season.—Chicago lnter-0:ean.

“It is. You are quite right,”
replied the gaunt, unshaven one. “J,
too, have been a mind reader in my
time. The power is on me now. I
know your thoughts. I can tell what
the speech will be that you arc framing
even now. You arc going to say, ‘I
am very sorry, but you will have to call
again.’ Am 1 not right 1”
“Marvelous," ejaculated Blinkins.
“I can go further,” pursued the
prophet, in a hoarse whisper. “You
will tell me to come in about the mid
dle of next week.”
“Miraculous,” cried Blinkins. “Now
it is my turn. 1 can see into your
very soul. You will answer, T have
been coming here for the past two
years every week, and. it’s high time
you settled up.’ ”
“You astonish me.”
“Y’ea, more— you will threaten to
bring suit against me.”
“Just what I was going to say. But
I can carry nty spiritual communion
further. You will say ‘sue and be—
blanked’ ”
“My dear sir, you are inspired.
You ought to be a wealthy prophet.”
“Then, continued the gaunt, un
shaven party, “after I give you a little
back talk you will waft me gently into
the street.”
“There is no use fighting against
destiny,” responded Blinkins; and a
tew moments later, as the gaunt, un

heard to remark that the next time he

The Augusta Railroad.
No projected enterprise interests
our people more than the proposed
road from Augusta to Tnomasville.
Thomasville has pledged $50,000, of
her good money, if the road is built to
this point within three years from date
of subscription. And she stands
ready to plank that amount down
when the terms are complied with.
Col. A. P. Wright, who has taken
great interest in the line, wrote to Mr.
Jackson, the vice president, a few
days siucc, asking about the status of
things, in order that our people might
have the fullest obtainable information
on the subject. We are permitted to
take the following extract (rom vice-
president Jackson’s reply under date
of the 12th inst. He says : -
"If there is anything certain in
railroading, I think the Augusta and
West Florida railroad is a certainty;
and, furthermore, you can tell all your
people, that we are coming to Thomas.

Our people will continue to watch
the progress of the road with deep in
terest, and all hope we will have to
pay that fifty thousand dollars within
the next two years.
